I think we can agree that many of these players probably aren’t good enough to be here. We can hope that they’re leaving because CMP doesn’t want him here but we’ll have to see who he replaces them with to be sure if it’s purposefully or if these guys are indeed leaving because of some

BG, JJ, and AJ were major disappointments and shouldn't have been invited back at any money. MoD was okay but overpaid for what he brings to the table, probably in the portal only because he got offered a pay cut. Chandler just got offered more than his fair market value(yes, he already has an offer or he wouldn't be under no contact). So far UK hasn't lost anybody they can't replace for less money.
kansas and tennesse lost their entire rosters. khamenia from duke who is a total stud and played 20mpg as a freshmen, would have been a stater next year is in the portal.

Sons are leaving their fathers to chase more NIL money. If it turns out players are taking pay cuts just to get away from Pope, that's when it's concerning.
Do other coaches talk about how they’re going to rely on retention and development? Mark pope does. He also doesn’t develop or retain anybody so he basically does nothing well.

Its more concerning the 2 teams he has assembled have lost 26 games in 2 seasons.
This is college sports now, Football, Basketball. Every team is dealing with it losing half the roster or more. I'd think people figure this out by now, we have one year leases on players and then they are out to the free market.
Last year the players we retained weren't anything of note besides Oweh. I am hoping for a roster similar to his first team again...Kam, Moreno plus money-ball junior/senior transfers that fit Pope's system (capable shooters) and play winning basketball. With a couple studs included of course. That first team was atleast fun to watch.
Most schools are having a retention issue right now. Popes just gotta replace guys with more talent and a better fit for his system
Its funny actually. Half the board wanted the whole roster gone. Now there are threads ripping him for not keeping more of them. Such is the life of the coach of UKB
I don’t think retention is the main problem here. It’s legit happening at every single school. The big problem is Pope can’t bring in portal studs when he needs to, so we settle for developmental guys that need time and they end up leaving before they reach their potential or seniors that are realistically just mid. He struck lightning in a bottle his first year and was able to get multiple 5th year seniors and bring his top guy from BYU with him.
Oddly he said a week ago that retention was gonna be his first job because we have some really really good players. Apparently failed at that also. Either that or he is full of it and people are sick of the fake Mr nice guy act.

chandler wanted to be paid like the 2nd or 3rd best player on the team. realistically he was going to be the 4th or 5th option if he returned. and at his level he is the 6th, 7th man.

They may not but this fan base bitched we overpaid for role players and they are trying to keep them at a price more to their worth and they don’t want to take a cut in pay which I understand. Chandler is the anomaly. Paying 3.2 million for a guy who didn’t even break double figures would be insane.
Im happy out of all the players to keep, He kept probably the 2 best. Mo was just to one dimensional. Moreno and Williams have the most upside out of all the potential returners.

Deeply concerning. When you are Morman and had a multi-year connection to a player and his family and CANT retain that player… Major Red Flag.

Chandler - gone. Chandler would have been a nice addition to Stay. I’m not sure we will replace better from the portal. I’m not expecting much from the portal at this stage regardless. Next year with pope is going to be a disaster regardless of roster, of that I’m sure.

People are mad that Pope has shown he can primarily only get the 6th man type.
The 1st roster got along well & the ones that left were out of eligibility best i can remember right off the top of my head. I think most of that team if not all would've came back if they weren't seniors. Sometimes the pieces just don't fit with brand new teams, just like some of the Calipari teams. We all know that Pope overpaid for this team, simply because of defense & physicality, the injury to Lowe made matters even worse. Next year's team will look a lot better than the 1st year I'm gonna assume, I think Pope is gonna be hell bent on finding pieces that can score & that fit. We shall see though.
