It has to be better than his first year as well. Going 6th in the SEC his third year isn’t a good look.
Not that much of a loss. He can't dribble or create his own shot. His defense isn't great. He's a decent shooter. That's about it. His talent level for Kentucky is a bench player that gets 5-10 minutes a game. The only reason it is a loss at all is because Pope is terrible and can't recruit worth a crap. I wish BYU would take him back with Chandler. If Pope can't get better talent than Chandler UK is in real trouble until Pope is gone.

This is correct. I can't believe anyone is upset about Chandler leaving. He was NOT UK level talent. Bench player 5-10 minutes a game at best. Pope has got to do better than Colin Chandlers or he should be fired very soon.
If UK under CMP is known for overpaying, it’s possible players expect to be overpaid by this coaching staff.

Right now Chandler may have been the best last man standing on our team. We sure as hell don't have 5 players on our team better than Chandler. Sometimes, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Yeah, nobody ever learns from mistakes and nobody ever mis-evaluates players. Cal and K batted a thousand with recruiting.
Look around, every program has transfers, not just UK.

Chandler and so many others leaving, coupled with no freshmen incoming , means that Mark Pope does not get a home team discount from players and their agents that know him well.
Which means that Mark Pope will need to overpay to get players from the portal.
Word among players and their representatives travels.
Chandler is officially willing to take less money to play for someone other than Pope.

Out of all the drama queens, incompetent, overhyped players on last years team, I liked Collin.
At minimum he appeared mature, even with shortcomings. Actually the only player I was hoping to return. I wish him (his wife) nothing but success.
Regarding his ask, I am not sure what the market supports today.
But the market will dictate value and pay.
They are professionals and supply/demand is the nature of the professional game we live in today.
In fact, I am advocate for paying a material premium for the premium players as long as they “win”.

Him, Aberdeen, Mo, Kam, Chandler, Moreno was basically like the only legit D1 guys. But in the end, OO and Aberdeen was only legit good players on a wining team.

Moreno literally turned down a massive offer to come back to UK for less than half the offer, that's much bigger news than.losing a shooting guard that can't dribble, defend, or create off the bounce.

You could make a case that Pope owes the fact he is still the coach here to Oweh. How many games did Oweh win for us the last 2 seasons?
Biggest reason we avoided a 3rd first round tourney humiliation in the last 5 years.
Oweh had his flaws as a player but I don’t think he played the way he did out of selfishness. I think he just understood when the offense was struggling he was a our best option.
Can’t blame Pope for giving away too much money to role players and then dog him when he won’t match a huge offer. That makes no sense. Could be getting a better player or just as good of one for cheaper.

Hope so but Keegan was with Pope before so I’m not expecting a fundamental change in Pope‘s roster construction.
I don't believe this is for basketball reasons. This is a family based decision. I wish him the best. Not a huge loss, but not a small loss either. Losing a 73-178 from 3 shooter hurts, but his inconsistency isn't going away this year. His senior season maybe, but Pope needs to win now so he's going to have to find a guy who is able to play both ends of the court a lot stronger than Chandler did defensively.
