It could be. It may be my perception. Maybe, the cautious approach is how he wins in the big matches. I like the reckless abandonment, I perceive he use to wrestle. People are pretty defensive when I critique Sprat. Oh well.
125 was a snoozefest last year too. Lee probably was last real active 125 lb. I’m not sure what the difference is between 125 lbs and 133lbs, but Blaze was doing his best to act like a 125 pounder
Jayden won't be a 174 any time soon. Not sure why Norman coming in as a Junior would affect him.
Really? he’s projected as a 174 pounder by pretty much all the recruiting sites I’ve seen
My guess is if they bring him in, it would be for 184 and have Ryder shirt.
That is just what I've read most people project him to in college. What weight will he be?
It appears on Wrestlestat that Berge has 1 year left. By far his best year was his RS freshman year 3 yrs ago when he took 4th at 184. The next year he went 1-2 at Ncaas at 184 and last year at 197 he went 1-2. He would be a puzzling addition to me.
Well he’s clearly got some talent. I’d guess DT believes he can maximize it.
Well it stands to reason hes not going 197. If he starts at 184 this year over Mikey then that 100% means that DT is punting til 2028 imo.
I could be wrong, but my eyes tell me that the new wave of wrestlers are just levels above most of the guys that were placing a few years ago.

DT coached Caleb Fish to an All American finish, so I would never doubt his ability to figure out how to get the most out of a guy. This isn’t meant as a knock on Fish, but iirc he had not AA’d until last year
I think Berge would be a solid 1-year fill-in if Ryder is out. He is a 5x HS state champ, a 3x NCAA qualifier (seeds of 9,5,13), 1x All-American, 2X U20 World medalist, several quality wins including over Jaxson Smith, Neitenbach (dominate wins 4x), McEnelly (in freestyle). Obviously, I am cherry-picking his better wins. He does have some perplexing losses. He appears to have had an injury during the season last year when moving up to 197 so that might have impacted his overall results. His resume is not that different from Hamiti or Amine and better than Fish from a couple years ago. Change of scenery and Magic Man influence may push him back to the 2024 4th place finish or better.

I know when it comes to Hamiti, at least he made the BR the year before he came to OSU. Berge going 1-2 the last TWO years at ncaas is not good. Was that what Fish did the year before he came, I cant recall?
Theres a difference in holding those guys out and finishing maybe 10th DTs first year and holding a couple guys out this next year and still getting a trophy.
Hamiti was also a 2 time AA before. He took 6th twice if I recall.
No. There is no difference. DT is going to wrestle the best lineup period. The only exception will be if a guy really wants an Olympic shirt. And considering your starters are still in RTC practices during the season - that's not likely either.
And if you think DT is doing this for a "trophy" - you have not been paying attention.
In Berge's defense, two years ago he was beating Silas Allred with 20 seconds left before what looked like a serious knee injury at the end of the match. I remember him coming out with a big brace on for his wrestle back match and looked very immobile. Obviously 197 was not the weight class he should have been wrestling in this last season. Looking at results, he had multiple close matches with Plott and an overtime match with McEnelly. I think you are underestimating his potential.
100% hope he proves me wrong. I remember when he was a tough draw for anyone. Just not happy with his last two years results. Hes got some bad losses.
Change of venue might help him out. Wasn't really on the same page as the staff the past couple years.
IF you dont think there wont be some of the best guys shirting to get other studs in the line up to maximize eligibility you havent been watching psu lately.
And no I do not think Coach Taylor is hunting just a trophy. He's an obsessed genius in the very best of ways. He's not naive about what it will take to win it all. That is his goal 100%.
As long as PSU is PSU, that will just never happen for the Cowboys. The margins are going to be close (eventually)
PSU can afford to do that when they're 70 points better than 2nd.
I disagree specifically where the Raneys are concerned and working them into the line up.
I think Taylor will put the 10 guys on the mat who he feels will produce the highest team points at nationals and everything else is secondary. I don't believe he will hold back any current best options for possible better future outcomes. He's all about winning right now.

This makes me want to puke. This is my only knock on DT. Not strategically redshirting. The team above, assuming it was a possibility eligibility wise, wins the national championship. Ugh.

Who cares if you get 2nd or 10th?!? The ONLY thing that matters at Oklahoma State is the National Championship. If any program in any sport can truly say that, it's us. Yes the last two years have been a lot of fun. But we've still been blown out by Penn State. We have to get strategic. Consider the competition. Cael did this and it worked. Wrestlers are crawling to Stillwater to wrestle for DT. They will stay and redshirt. Redshirts can wrestle and get plenty of action nowadays to keep them active, interested, and motivated. One sacrifice year could really set us up for a major run. 2028 is where the window starts!
