The white kid from Kentucky who was supposed to be the answer to our three point shooting woes. I'm not sure if he ever suited up before leaving school.
Andrew Taylor. That's another good one but he didn't contribute enough to matter to me. Along with Kanye Clary.

I'm trying to think of any football misses.

I had high hopes for Makylan Pounders to be a solid left tackle after transferring from Memphis. He started for a pretty good Memphis team. He only stayed one year here and wasn't great, then transferred out

We haven’t truly hit on a basketball transfer to date. Melendez was probably the best so far.

Basically all the offense and defensive linemen we’ve brought in have been misses.

This was the first one that came to my mind. He was highly rated out of the portal from what I remember. He was not a good player for us.

For football, I remember Isaiah Zuber having a lot of hype coming from KState before collecting a whopping 213 yards receiving under a Joe Moorhead coached offense.
Zuber was at least talented. He hung around practice teams in the NFL for a few years. That one is all on SloMo.

Dollar for dollar I dont see how anyone is even in the same hemisphere as Ballard
You look at the guy and he looked like he could be the best post player we have had since Varnardo. Then proceeds to get on the court and get blocked out by small guards.

Under Jans watch, Tyler Stevenson, Eric Reed, Jamel Horton, Jaquan Scott, Foumena, Achor, Walker, Ali, Ballard, Clary, Euro, Fort, Taylor

The only portal pickups that we got any production (and it was limited) from in the Jans era were Bell, Deshawn Davis, Harris, Melendez, and Kugel

Scott and fort were juco guys so not portal. Reed and Stevenson were 2 guys who played big minutes on a tournament team and Jans had 0 funding that class (thanks Cohen)

Not sure if this technically counts as a “portal miss” or just a transfer miss, but its hard to imagine any bigger bust than KJ Costello.

His last fully healthy season at Stanford, he put up basically the same numbers as Justin Herbert did at Oregon right before getting drafted in the Top 5….against the same competition. Then he comes here, under a very proven passing HC/OC, lights the world on fire in Baton Rouge, then completely forgot how to play football for the rest of his career.

I think he re-injured that shoulder in about the 2nd or 3rd game of the season and was playing hurt all year.

I had high hopes for Scott Lashley from AL when he transferred here. He wasn't as bad as Javen James that just left us for AL (scratching my head wondering why they wanted him) but Lashley just never seemed to progress any

First, again, that was pre-NIL. Also, he at least started all year. Third, he rode the bench for 4 years at Bama so you had no reason to have high hopes.

I'd say he's far from a portal miss, considering what was expected of him.

Of course, he actually had competent coaching.

The really aggravating part was that for few minutes every few games he would look like what we paid for and then disappear for several games, or weeks, again.

An injured shoulder is not an excuse to throw passes directly to blitzing linebackers that are 5 yards in front of him and not even in coverage.

He had a complete mental breakdown…..Mark Wohlers / Rick Ankiel style.
