Guess What The Morning Show GIF by Apple TV+

All us fans have no clue as to who will be the next to announce they are leaving and who will eventually end up on the banks.

With that said, I'll join in on this guessing game...

I'll be shocked if Ware is not on the roster next season.

As long as we’re not paying more than a couple token thousand dollars (not hundred thousand), that would be just fine.

Ware maybe if he’s basically free. I think it’s going to be hard for Grant to stay here. He’d have to take a pay cut which would be an awkward thing to do. Think of the work force. Let’s say you get a big promotion and then it turns out your not really cut out for the new level job. You usually end up moving on, not taking your old job back. This would be kind of like that.
Agree. He had the opportunity to be the star this year in what was always likely to be a tough season and for whatever reason this just wasn't his year. Even without the NIL/portal stuff it may be best for him and for RU to move in separate directions. A fresh start could be exactly what he needs. That's not to distract from what he did at RU but sometimes things come to a logical end for both parties.

Kid wasn't good ss a freshman, didnt play SD so senior, he was never going to be the star this year. That essentially always wishful thinking.

Unless they trim to the bone they will get stuck committing a bunch of money on roster retention…and I don’t think that’s what we want outside of 2-3 players. See football.
Kelli grew the war chest and their FA pickups were mediocre at best because retention took up the bull of funds…

Perhaps, but none of that is really relevant on a forward looking basis. It’s very hard to go from having the role his was positioned to have (and able to a certain extent to fill against low majors) to a projected reserve back up.

That would be the only appropriate circumstance to plan to keep him around and his metrics against low majors are good enough where he should have better offers than we ought to be willing to shell out to keep him here. Look at Wolf. There’s no doubt he can surpass that production level at the lower division.

We will end up missing him next year, I'm fearful. Can we find 4 front court players better? Hope so.
No but you can’t look at it like that. We couldn’t afford to pay him his 700k+ or more and also pay a starting PF. If we kept him here we would be bringing in a questionable low major forward to compete with him for playing time or a frosh forward.

Instead you have to look at it as - we had EO and Grant. Nwuli and Dortch their back ups. Every other option complete garbage. If we upgrade the starters (better than Grant and EO) and match the utility production from the others (that’s a bit harder but Nwuli and Dortch didn’t provide all that much) we’ve made significant upgrades.

If he cost $700K, I agree you let him go, but a backup 4 is going to cost that in the portal. Grant was under 500k last year, I'd have tried to keep him at that same price.

He’s not going for under 700k and it’ll likely be close to 1M. He played 24 mpg on a BIG team and put up 9.5 ppg as a starter. That’s the going minimum rate for a projected high major starter and whatever we paid him last year doesn’t change that. We either to pay him the low end of the starter rate or let him walk. We did the latter because the cost wasn’t worth it to us.

The guys below will battle one another for the two guard positions and SF:

Francis
Davis
Powers
Mark
Buchanan
Wooten
Duarte

I don't want to see anyone else on the roster who doesn't have a PF or C after his name.

I thought we don't know for sure yet if Ogbole is gone as he appealed to the NCAA for one more year of eligibility. I would like him back as a backup center for next year. His rebounding numbers were good for only 18 mpg.
