IOWA will be spending over $10M on the 2026-27 roster (Portal opens on Tues, April 7)

Iowa is stuck with Folgy and his contracted amount if he has not found a new home by Aug 1. Meaning someone has contacted his agent and willing to pay more than Iowa will.

I don't see him leaving if his Iowa NIL deal is truly over a million.
That's what it was lasst year not what they offered this year....

I've seen this name pop up a few times.

I kind of like the idea of bringing in a younger guy like this, who would fit into a young core that already includes Sage, Koch, Thompson, Harris, Coon, Jirak, etc., and then look toward a 3-year build.
I like this guy. Hopefully he’ll take a visit. Scored 24 against ISU and 28 in the last game of the season against Arizona.

I had no idea Alvaro signed a 2 year deal with guarantees....

There's a report that Iowa has also targeted 6'1" Colorado guard Isaiah Johnson (was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention).

He has 3 years left.

This season he averaged 16.9 pts, 3.0 assists and 2.9 rebs. He shot 49% from the field and 38% from three.

I saw that UCLA is pushing hard to get him to replace Dent. USC is another possibility.

Interesting stuff on Ethan Harris :

Love this...I watched a few clips of Ethan and I could see this immediately re: attitude and effort. Encouraging teammates, positive energy and very talented. He will play this year IMO and maybe Jaidyn can play SG as well. Someone just posted on X and of course not always true yet they are saying a few schools are offering Folgy well north of $2 mil/year...this stuff continues to get nuts.

I don't know if he did or not. But if I was his agent it would be all years of eligibility the player has left.

If the player does not live up to expectations I don't want to take a pay cut. If he has an outstanding year I just say I'm entering the portal. They either increase my NIL or go somewhere else.

The agents for college make 20% which is ridiculous. I would want the $400k for 2 years guaranteed from the players. AF was a highly touted player so he got more than I thought Iowa could pay.

I don’t think another program would get him the numbers that he could get at Iowa. He might be from California, though. He’s probably going to be a tough get.

All five Michigan starters were from the portal.

May got a championship in 2 years just like Cignetti. May credited last years team for setting the culture to get this years team.

How do you stop the rich that have an elite coach?

To get a good C and PG it may take some tough decisions by Ben to either say no or let a current player walk or tell them they will be getting less minutes next year. I hope we can get a good C and PG and don’t have to settle for one or the other.

since Ethan can play defense, maybe you just let Alvaro walk

and i agree; I can't believe we are talking about paying players $2M on top of a free "education"

yeah, the agents want everything in favor of the player, that is for sure

any idea which rich Iowa boosters are stepping up to pay the Iowa players?

as many have said on here before, I don't know how this is sustainable

how would you like to be a coach, dealing with these guys and these agents?

Saw Michigan is pushing hard for the 6' 9" PF from St. Marys. The #3 player in the portal, The rich get richer.

Our roster now sits at 14 (assuming Tavion Banks is back). 13 on scholarship, 1 walk on.

How do you allocate the $10M to $12M?

6'7 G/F Tavion Banks (SR)
6'9 F Alvaro Folgueiras (SR)
6'4 G Kael Combs (SR)
6'8 F Cam Manyawu (SR)

6'5 G Isaia Howard (JR)
6'2 G Jacob Koch (JR)

6'7 G Tate Sage (SO)
6'8 F Cooper Koch (RS SO)
6'9 F Joey Matteoni (RS SO)
6'11 C Trevin Jirak (SO)

6'8 F Trey Thompson (RS FR)
6'8" PF Ethan Harris (FR)
6'2 G Peyton McCollum (RS FR)
6'7 SF Jaidyn Coon (FR)
I am surprised that coach hasn’t had that “talk” with Matteoni about going to a school he can play at. He is buried on this depth chart and will not play. We need a center with a defensive presence and a PG. Simple as that. Starters probably look like:
Pg - Combs
Sg - Sage
Sf - Koch
Pf - Banks
C - Cam
But the depth with Thompson, Coon and Harris will push for minutes. If AF stays he gets minutes and I hope Jirek pushes the group. But if we get a BIG then all that changes down low.

I like the versatility of this roster but we just have to get another PG and it does not address our biggest issue: size and toughness down low. I love Banks but his tweener status leaves us small down low. Let’s hope Ben works the portal and gets what we need.

Was just going to post this Kyan Evans from UNC. From KC, went to Co. State, then to UNC. Coming back home makes sense yet doesn't have the minutes or production of other portal PG's, although I'm sure the roster at UNC dictated that too.
At Co State...averaged 10 ppg and 3 assists per game.

I see Minnesota is pursuing too. I wonder with Medvedev being his former coach if that gives them the advantage

Did he say, evaluations are done for a specific pg and center or for the portal? Several hundred new names yesterday. If they have zeroed in on specific players they must feel good about closing the deal.

sounds like, based on their evaluations of who's in the portal, they know who they want to target. hopefully there is mutual interest and the numbers line up.

Native of Kansas City; has 1 year left.

Averaged 18 minutes, 4 pts, 2.5 assists. Shot 33% overall and 31% from three.

Numbers were better at Colorado St., yet consider the competition at both places. I think maybe a fallback recruit if we can't get a more productive fish? Unless they feel good with a Combs combo at PG - yet I think better players are out there...

I keep hearing that in today's NIL era, you need 2 things: a great coach and money. It looks like Iowa finally has both. :)

But, as we all keep saying, how long can the spending madness go on? I still can't believe that Iowa appears to be needing $5M total for two players (a PG and a center).

who can we get for $2.5M? :)

I have mentioned this before; Luka Garza doesn't even make $2.5M with the Celtics. That tells you how f'd up this has all become.
