I honestly didn't think Jelly was right for us either. Maybe he will prove me wrong but he brought so little to the table.
The fact that Pope doesn't know how to use his own roster shows me he isn't a great coach. A great coach knows the game and will find ways to get something out of them. He didn't use Jelly right, he didn't use most of the players right this year. It was masked in his first year because they where shooters.

I think he has a lot of potential but AJ was not one of the ones I wanted to get back. He really needs to work on his post defense which was as bad as I've ever seen; guys that posted him up scored at over an 80% clip(an estimate, what it seemed to me but I don't have the stats and would love to see them). I am not absolving the coaching staff of blame since he didn't appear to get any post defense coaching this year but it's the same coach next year and we can't afford a guy learning to play defense in games.

I think he had zero confidence and combined with a PG who wasnt really a PG, but a guy who couldn't take every shot so occasionally he passed he just wasnt able to make enough plays for himself. DA did what he could but he needed a playmaker out there with him other than Oweh.

Whenever I think of Jelly I think of the comment one of you guys made in a game thread (forget who and forget what game) -- "we got the one Euro who can't shoot"

Agree with Bugs' post that Underwood will fix him.

I have considered that as a real possibility. I have also considered the fact that Jelly too often was a non-factor. I really don't know how much of that was coaching and how much of that was him. He is big and talented. Unless Pope was holding him back, why didn't he grab more rebounds or drive to the basket, etc? It is hard for me to believe that Pope told him to stand out at the 3 point line and wait for an opportunity to shoot a 3. Maybe he was lost and Pope wasn't making it clear what he should be doing.

We have all seen this movie before. A UK player underperforms and we blame the coach. Then, that player transfers and doesn't do any better. On the flip side, I loved Hopkins when he was here. I didn't think that Cal was using him the right way and he left and did superbly well. I guess we will see with Jelly now that he is in the portal.

Shopping for the biggest payday, imo.

I like Jelly and I'd prefer him back. He might not be fishing for money, he may just want to see what else is out there, maybe a better fit, maybe a coach who will promise to utilize him in a different way.

Him, Moreno, Chandler and Mo are the guys I'd like back the most. Happy Kam is back, but he ranks after them.

I really liked Jelevic. With a good summer of work, he could be really good.

If he actually does leave, Pope just needs to make sure he replaces him with someone better.

A shooter not a maker
Yeah.....he lived down to his reputation as not a marksmen from deep.

29% 3pter is simply not good enough and while I think he improves, he simply would have to accept a backup PF role and whatever is the appropriate NIL. Possibly a role he wasn't down for.

I think the an item Pope was pegged at improving the roster management over Cal is getting guys to buy in to multi year roles....and the results are mixed at this point. Chandler, Kam, Moreno....but not able to get depth pieces has not happened yet....everybody wants to start, make bigger NIL and not interested in much else.

To compete for a title you have to have dang good big men. Other than having a legit point guard Pope has to get the right big guys in the portal to turn this around

Ball handling was an issue for him, he was a decent player but had a lot of potential. I think he felt he couldn’t do what he wanted to do offensively while he was here.

Misused him how...he airballed open 3s, but then wouldn't even look at the basket if he wide open down low.

We'll be back bc no one else is starting him, thats for sure
He hit more threes than mo and mountain momba together rebounded the ball when others stood and watched played better defense and jerked back and forth from lineup by popes ridiculous substitutions he will go to the big ten under a real coach and thrive.
