Iowa finishes #15 in final AP Poll

I understand there are far more talented teams than Iowa. What I don’t understand is why do a poll that doesn’t take into account the end of season results that matter? We may not be among the top 8 most talented teams but we made the elite 8 so why doesn’t the final “poll” reflect that? Not to mention we beat Nebraska in the rubber match and they’re ranked one ahead of Iowa.

I realize others may see it differently and it’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. I’m just a little fatigued with polls that don’t reflect results on the court.

I agree with the criticisms, and yet Iowa finishing #15 in Ben's first year with a roster of mid-major kids is pretty fantastic. And there was more to the season than just the NCAA Tournament. Look at Wisconsin, the only conference team that beat Michigan and also won @ Illinois and beat Purdue, yet finished #25 because they lost to High Point in the first round of the tourney.

It's a long, wild season, and if you're just going to list teams according to how they did in the tourney, that probably doesn't make much sense.

Iowa made the Elite Eight, and that's what most people will remember, not this final poll, this list of people's opinions. Iowa proved it on the court by beating Clemson, beating #1 seed and defending national champion Florida, whipping Nebraska for the second time in three tries, and coming mighty close to beating Illinois and advancing to the Final Four. This poll will soon be forgotten, but those games will live for a long, long time.

I'll admit, Wisky is way off. They were a scary good team that just got unlucky in the first round. They absolutely had Elite Eight potential, which has to feel brutal for their fanbase. The way they ended the regular season, they could compete with anyone, I guess High Point was the exception.

Just like I don't believe that the transitive theorem applies in sports, I'm also not one of those who thinks that an Elite 8 run automatically means that Iowa should've been ranked in the Top 8 in the last poll. By that logic, a George Mason Cinderella team that makes a run to the Final Four should have finished ranked in the Top 4 nationally. Nope.

Iowa went from unranked (and probably zero votes) to #15. Seems appropriate enough to me and I'll certainly take it. A top 15 finish in Ben's first year is pretty cool.

Another way I look at this, is if Iowa beats Clemson, Florida and Nebraska in 3 straight games in the regular season, I figure maybe they squeak into the Top 25. I don't see them jumping to #15, much less the Top 8. Not from being unranked.

Disagree. Wisconsin is pretty average and completely dependent on the 3-point shot. The exact kind of team that can get bounced in the first round. Their final ranking is deserved.
