Complete debacle, the guy doesn't have to achieve anything, if he absolutely sucks after 1-2 seasons, he'll walk away with tens of millions of dollars, that's why I refuse to go see any games live or to pay for them anymore. This **** has gotten out of control, IMO.

Did they at least go hard after guys like McCasland or Shertz? Seems like a lot for an unproven “college” coach.

Between this and the Belichick hire, UNC’s AD is giving our AD a run for his money in terrible decisions.

I would’ve given Shertz an opportunity before some other major program nabs him if all the other coaches turned you down. High risk, high reward kind of coach.

Jury is out on this guy Imo. And I hear he has a very crappy temperament at times. His Denver team wins a franchise record 57 games, an NBA title and he gets fired just a year and a half later??? With one of several reasons being cited as “locker room concerns” Hmmmmm….

And denver didnt become a title threat until Joker turned into a generational talent.

I had Joker two years in a row in fantasy basketball (got lucky).. he scored about an additional 15% more in fantasy points as the #2 best player on his title team. It is unheard of how good he has been the last 4-5 years. I dont think theres anything like it in football either.. maybe Ladanian Tomlinson years ago did something similar. But Joker in 2024 was THAT much better than everyone else.

Another indicator of this: His BPM (box plus minus) has hovered in the 13 to 14 range during this time. For reference, anything over a 10 is considered MVP-level to the likes or Jordan and LeBron top seasons. Thats how good hes been.

Denvers success and title is primarily due to Joker, with Mike Malone being a far distant 2nd (heck Jamal Murray might be #2.).

Read on another site that he did not like working with the young players in the NBA and preferred veteran players, really just didn’t have the patience to deal with rookies. Not sure if it’s true, I had never heard of the guy before this hire, if true, it may be a huge issue coaching college players.

I know he's got an NBA championship but honestly has a coach actually mattered since the 90s? Obviously a better hire then we made 2 years ago but I have doubts this is gonna be a success...

Wow, didn't see that coming. But I'm pretty sure Hubert was getting paid like $3m or less so maybe they had cash to burn...?
We put the new $1 billion arena on hold to get a coach, staff, and get them the roster needed to put UNC back on top.

We've only done step 1 so far. Boosters are spending a lot this offseason. But you can't fill a new arena if the team is playing the way Hubert had them playing.

UNC's AD didn't get Belichick. A rogue member of the Board of Trustees (a group of political cronies hired by the gerrymandered NC Legislature) went behind the AD's back to get Belichick. That Trustee was forced to resign.

And Joker was a fat 2nd rounder averaging 8 points per game in summer league when Mike Malone began coaching him.
