I know someone will post something very negative about how I feel, and that is OK.
Zoom? Seriously. WTF?

Times have changed in many ways in our society, some for the good and some not so good.
If anyone ever had a business, ran an office, you know if you want to hire someone, someone you really want, you meet with a handshake and talk in person. No email, no text and no zoom; you look them in the eye and speak face to face.

You must outwork everyone to get to where you want or where you want to go is not where we need to be.

Zoom?

I agree. Zoom call interviews only work for remote workers.

Do other schools set up as many Zoom calls? Honestly asking. I would think UK has a large enough budget to go meet these guys and have an actual conversation, but maybe that isn't even the norm nowadays.

Yes they do, the volume of players and tight timelines essentially mandates this approach, a coach may visit a few of his top candidates, though outside of that, this is the way.

Isn’t that what these players are? They are remote….
A remote worker stays at home. These guys are coming into the office.

I fondly remember Pope and staff jumping on a westbound jet going out to secure the services of Lamont Butler….Now, they are chilling in the offices video dating injured players… Again.
He was prioritized, sure he will do that for a few top players.

You have just a few days to get these kids, in some cases just hours. Meeting all the ones you want to speak with in person is just not feasible, except maybe for your top 1-2 priority ones. Also, which would be considered better, A) an assistant meeting them in person, or B) the Head Coach for an hour Zoom/Teams call? I could see a case for either being better (more personal) than the other.

I have a friend who started and built his own oilfield supply business. He tells me stories similar to how you described business. Long story short, he's retired (we play golf together) and he set up his son-in-laws by selling them the business. They now run the business with phone calls, emails, etc. My friend sometimes sometimes shakes his head as he valued the personal/professional relationships he cultivated. I'm guessing that is how things are done now with social media and the technological environment that now exists.

Hopefully Zoom calls will not make him look or act awkward to the player. Hopefully Mo talks to both guys and tells them he will teach them what they need to make it to the show! Throw them that line and some cash and move on to the next guy. Would be hard to not learn from a guy who played with LeBron! Just hoping out loud.

DT said earlier this morning, he and Pope played two virtual games of chess and some majohng while they discussed his opportunties at Kentucky, though who knows.

It is funny that zooms are so big in this but NFL free agency is so impersonal for example.

My guess is the spread on these offers from various teams is pretty minimal from a raw dollar standpoint.

I do nothing but zoom meetings during the day. I work from home and unless I’ve got to go out to meet clients for very specific reasons I’m just chillin.

What might make you even more upset old fart, is what I do when I’m not meeting on zoom. That’s even worse.

I haven’t shaken a work related hand shake since 2004. And my team doesn’t communicate unless it’s by text mail. I never see my boss.

And I have little respect for the clock. What’s even better is all of the people who said “college is a scam and doesn’t mean anything” seeing me at work and realizing they, too, should have gone to college 😬😃 My buddies don’t say it anymore!!!!!!

I remember saying yes yes yes to Charlie Kirk all the time, until his college speech. I’m like man hell nah I’m going!

Then he is a Pope guy if you are telling the truth. Pope will pay him good just because they are able to think alike. Wonder if the word is out that you play mental chess and games with Pope to boost your NIL offer? Didn’t JQ and Pope play chess or was that someone in his first season? Wonder if they made more than the average player? 🤔

It was definitely referenced that he player chess with Chandler the most though a few other players.

No, zoom calls is what you do when there are a thousand kids in the portal and you have 14 days.
You aren't going to fly all over the country just to touch base with each guy to see if they are even interested.
Y'all just need to stop looking for reasons to crush Pope and start using common sense.
Coaches used to do phone calls, now it's zoom, which is better.
My God people, get a clue.

Would you fly to Louisiana, just to check to see if a kid is interested?
Then Wisconsin?
Then Stanford (California)?

You have to see if they're interested before you waste your time and their time.

When I see a boomer lurking I turn to see if Jw is coming around to call’m a Dumb f’n Idi**t as they pass by……

The technology gap between booms and the world today has got to be as wide as it’s ever been.
Man I really wish I could just read it and move on. Some of these people are just so disconnected from the reality of the world today and way too proudly ignorant about it I have to let them know.

No need to beat down the old guy, I’m on the backend of my 2nd career and I too have the luxury of working from home and having zoom meetings, once a week and emails and pop ups with my boss and colleagues. But, sometimes I really miss working with people and I understand that if there was a player who you really wanted, why not use the team jet and go them shake hands and look them in the eye and tell them that they are needed at UK. Then shake his hand and give him a bag of money to seal the deal. The good times of buying players are long gone.

I agree about college, best thing I ever invested in my lifetime.

So one day you're against Pope, and frustrated Pope and now you're back on board? You're just like vek. Bi-polar. I am not looking for negatives. There aren't much positives to hang on Pope right now. The players you want, just like clients you wine and dine them. They have to be intentional. This is Pope's make or break season. He should do anything and everything to land the best of the best. Maybe you should get a clue.
