This place will be a riot when we miss out on all the portal studs

TBF…the large majority of the board was giddy after the portal gets last season. Lowe was 3rd team ACC and his numbers were bad because Pitt sucked so bad he had to take all the shots. BG was primed to bust out. Chandler was gonna average 15 and take a huge jump. MO shot a great percentage from 3 even though his shot looks like a JH girls, but he’ll thrive in Popes system. Kam is on so many draft boards even though he averaged 9 points on a bad Tulane team. It was amazing the pumping that was done. Hell, I got a ton of pushback when I said there’s no way JQ would be ready by the beginning of the season. It honestly resembled a cult in May last year. It was wild.

In short, I think the last two springs have told us the majority of BBN will buy whatever BS Pope and Mitch sell. Two years ago was the cult convention at Rupp for the “press conference”. Last year it was the Ferrari. I’m on the edge of my seat for what this year brings.
Hopefully they go get good players who fit. Get to work, shut up about roster cost, and find a way to win.

I’m not sure why… We have abundant available data suggesting that is exactly what is going to happen, so I’m not sure why astute fans are playing pretend with the situation, if that is indeed what is occurring.

Look, we all want Pope to put together a championship level contender, but going by the past results, it’s extremely unlikely that is going to happen!

We are all just going to have to exercise patience, and let the season play out, good, bad, or indifferent, but depending on the team Pope is eventually able to put together, it might appear to be over before it starts, and that’s exactly what a lot of us were saying just a few months ago when the red flags were flopping around in the wind, as others were lobbying for another go around.

It’s literally this simple… He’s either going to get his main targets and put together something promising, or he’s not, like this past recruiting cycle, and it’s going to be a very long 11-12 months.
Which abundant data do ‘we’ have that suggests we won’t get any good portal targets. I’m curious. We have basically unlimited $$$$. Isn’t that the most important element to score big in the portal? What am I missing?

I mean, even if the portal doesn’t appear like we made a “big haul”, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be a bad year. If he can prove he can win the SEC and make a deep run in both tournaments, fans would be much more confident with keeping him on for longer.
No I agree, I meant if he laid a complete egg. If he even gets the haul he did the last couple of years that's going to make a decent team. Decent won't get him a 4th season though

If you’re too damn soft to take anon accounts commenting on social media (when they could be burners of other teams fans) then you have no business playing here under the pressure this place provides. Whoever wrote that article is a jackass who has no business anywhere near this program.
The only thing that matters to these kids is money and who is coaching them. I promise you it’s not the fans.
Nobody cares and it’s only brought up because we are the standard and always will be.

if you cant take jakekx saying how much your 4-21 shooting night on rupps rafters sucked then go play for Villanova or something.

He will get 7th and 8th on the list after pursuing number one target and then convince the fanbase that they are the ones he wanted because they are a fit to his program and pretend they are very talented. We all know some of them can't shoot or even dribble and can't guard a fence post then reality sets in that Pope cannot recruit even with money to burn.

I can 100% guarantee you Pope is going to over-correct his recruiting this year. Last year he focused on defense and getting power five higher minute bench players who could be given an opportunity to shine with starters minutes at Kentucky. That did not work out so he is going to completely change it up. This year he is going to focus on a ton of mid-major guys who will resemble his first year squad. He may actually get better results with that type of roster as they will probably be more receptive to what he wants to do. But I don't think that is a long term path for success. Not at Kentucky. Not saying you can't build a successful transfer team (look at what Michigan just did) but I don't think Pope is the right coach for it.

We should riot. No one has actually told the true story on how JQ ended up here.

Pope has nothing to do with it
He didn’t say people will riot. He said it will be a riot. He laughs when UK loses or misses on a recruit but trust him he’s the biggest UK fan. He loves this guy —> 🤣.

He's basically Tubby with slightly less coaching ability.
Except Tubby didn’t want 5 Star guys, Tubby wanted 3-4 Star players that were hungry to prove they were worthy of 5 Stars. Pope wants the Best players he can get, he just can’t relate with the kids these days and they laugh at him for being dopey. Of course, that is just his personality, I’m sure if we were recruiting players from only Amish and Morman communities, we would have a Top 10 Class every year. IMO 😜

Hey we would suck, but those Amish work hard. Lose by 50 and then go out and build someone a barn.

I expect it. I'm checked out until Pope is gone. I'll still watch the games, but my actual fandom or true care is very low. I skipped many games this year. I didn't even watch the Santa Clara game. Because I knew we'd just get thrashed by Iowa State.

I remember when NCAAT losses would hurt my soul. Those days are long gone. It kind of reminds me a worse version of the 2000-2002, 2006-2008 eras where I knew we had no shot and our team was mediocre.

Apathetic about college sports in general, really. Find myself just rooting against other teams more than entertaining that we will be competitive.
