They hired a coach the same time as we did. They are now national champions, and we are, well… whatever we are.

That in a nutshell sums up Mitch Barnhart and his stewardship of Kentucky Basketball. The administration hasn’t taken it seriously for a decade, and neither has anyone else in America.

Poop's task was impossible according to the geniuses on here. Were supposed to be thankful he even had 5 players to field a lineup

If we can’t get an outside AD who thinks outside the box, I am honestly unsure about the future of UK basketball. I won’t be confident. Maybe Pope makes a miraculous recovery and we don’t have to worry about having to look for a new coach next year? It’s possible.

But we can’t keep going the direction we’ve been going. The FB program appears to be looking forward. Now the BB program needs to so the same.

We have a loser culture in Lexington. Athletic director, school president, and coaching staff.

People can talk about player fit all they want to. But at the end of the day, we have a loser head coach. That doesn't change by getting good players.
I’m not ready to declare the head coach a “loser” just yet. He gets a fair shake of one more year, if he can’t pull off a regular season title and a deep run in both tournaments, I’ll agree that there is probably no more hope left in the tank.

But I agree with the AD and president. We can only hope the hire is not connected to Mitch Barnhart in any way.

11 seasons as a head coach. Two at a blue blood. 63% career winning percentage.

That may not be the mark of a loser, but it's certainly not the mark of a winner.

We waited a few years too many to find a new coach, but we saved a TON of money (not really). I wish we could've bribed someone to hire Cal away from UK a few years earlier.

They wouldn’t have hired any one of note. Mitch Barnhart doesn’t have the creativity or aptitude to hire a legitimate “diamond in the rough”.

It’s why the next AD hire is so important. It cannot be just another one of the Barnhart guys. They’re losers. Legitimately one of the lousiest athletic administration in the country. We can’t keep relying on boosters jumping in to demand the standard be kept because eventually they’ll get their way and you end up with BCG and CMP. Unimaginative hires.

I wouldn't consider BYU a blue blood but 63% sucks no matter where you coach.

How many people on this board wanted Cadeau as our pg last year? Zero
What about mara that played 10 mins at UCLA
Zero again

Maybe some of you should think about that this portal season.

Just shows Pope sucks at analyzing talent. Not sure what the fans have to do with it.

And to the guy above you, winners can overcome the loss of a key guy like we did with Lowe. Losers can't. (Jq quit and could have played so not counting him).

It certainly hurts Pope band of merry men. Literally took over a program in much worse shape than UK and won a championship and UK fans are supposed to kiss Marks feet over a sweet 16.

They hired a coach. He put together a roster worthy of a national title through the portal and now their recruiting will be even better. It all starts at the top.
Everybody should know big men can't coach college basketball.

If I heard the announcer right last night, every starter on Michigan was a transfer from the portal.
If I heard that right, then this is all on those who went out and bought the team they did.

Players can be an OK player but to hand out millions just because they are in the portal is what it looks like happened. Whomever evaluated our roster is the one that is to blame. I don't see much improvement from anyone who is in the portal now from UK. Just don't.

Lol when people mentioned dusty may before people laughed it off. Same idiots with original tales like poop can predict the future about Dusty hilarious. Most people called his final four a crap shot. Same people whining about freshmen when he did it with upper class transfers hmm, interesting too.

May took FAU to the F4 and still has residual talent off that team playing high D1. Great eye for talent, second best coach in the sport right now. That said, I think this year's UM team was lightning in a bottle as guys like Mara and Yaxel don't fall off trees.
