This Artemis II is cool and all but I’d like…

Yeah, I heard someone say that today. If we went and walked around on the moon in 68. Why are we doing a drive by today?

I'm sure it has to do with many things I don't understand.

This mission is basically a test flight to make sure everything runs smoothly. Artemis 3 will be the next step that will add more to the spacecraft and then Artemis 4 will be the actual lunar landing.

The real mission is Mars. This was to send the ship past the moon further than ever before and to see the dark side for the first time and as Desoto said testing the equipment. Landing on moon is in 2028 is for the rehearsal for that Mars landing.

Just heard a conversation today with a person that builds commercial airliners, said that this is a fake launch, the earth is flat, and that there is another world under Antarctica that we know is there but can't get to. Also Himalayan salt is pink because it's where God fell, therefore it's Him a Lay a Salt.

I questioned his sanity.

The amount of people that comment on each social media post about Artemis with photos of earth and say that they’re fake because the earth is flat is pretty astounding.

We will never land humans on Mars. The orders of magnitude of complexity are enormous. It’s a great way to get a lot of funding for decades though.

it is really cool that we’ve just sent humans into space further from the earth than we ever have before.

You and I are about the same age, and we probably will not live to see it, but I think it will happen. They will figure it out.

I wonder what the split between morons and rage baiters is on that? We have a lot of idiots and *** holes in this country so I really have no clue what that reality is.

Yeah people said we’d never send a satellite into space
Or land on the moon

We might not get to mars but saying never is really dumb

It’s different. By many orders of magnitude. The physics of launching satellite into space or even sending humans to the moon are pretty simple. The physics of landing a large heavy landing craft with humans on Mars are a whole different story. Not to mention getting them there & back to begin with.

See...it took 11 Apollos, but only 4 Artemisses (Artemii??). Anyway, we learned from our past experience.

I get why people think the government may have faked the moon landing(s) as there was a geopolitical motive. Of course you would think Russia etc would still be telling us on a daily basis that we lied about it if it were faked? And what? 6 other countries have sent some sort of probe that has landed there? Were those faked as well?

The flat earth thing I don’t get. What is the global.. oh wait, “flat bread” reasoning to try and convince the populations of the world that the earth is a ball instead of flat?

I’ve heard/read somewhere that any trips to Mars is 1 way - not coming back.

What else I’ve wondered is why NASA is doing all this we’re going to Mars stuff when Elon seems to be way ahead with that plan. Just let him do it with his private money and not tax payer money.

No question about that.....it'll be like the next generation of pioneers. Very high possibility of death....but if you make it, a whole new world could open for you.

Good question. I mean we did all this work back in the day which laid the blueprint for private industry. And for the most part I believe we are letting that happen, as NASA has contracts with both Blue Origin and SpaceX. Probably the best way to do it so it can be regulated, rather than just letting Elon blow shlt up constantly until he gets it right. I mean it's pretty well known he thinks of humans as simply data points and risk factors. He will get it right eventually, as that is his strong suit and where he needs to stay, rather than 17ing with government.

Japan bombers from 1941 had to take this route to bomb Pearl Harbor...

or maybe this route, if Flat Earthers have thought more about it...

Whichever map is referenced, a ton of other issues arise from using it to explain other things.

Its really odd that Flat Earth conspiracy exists enough for kids to casually know about it.

You're talking about the course the Imperial Navy fleet took and not suggesting that Japan used long range bomber flights from their home island to Hawaii, right?

You continually run your mouth as a definitive expert on things you have no idea about.

The goal of NASA and Space X is a round trip to Mars. Its definitely not a goal of a 1 way trip.

This happens incrementally, just like the Apollo missions. Each one builds on the previous one, testing functionality.

The vehicle that will land on the moon hasn't even been built yet. A lot of that will be informed by observations they're making now.

Basically for the same reason you learn to parallel park in an empty parking lot rather than on a city street.

Also, they're testing out the equipment on the first trip.

ETA sorry, this was redundant and unnecessary. Responded before reading 🧵
