I don't discount what happened in the past but I do know until the mid 1970's only about eight to 10 college programs *if that many* emphasized basketball or cared much about it. Football ruled the roost most places.
Lmao and?! That’s tough **** for them I reckon.

Half of UK's championships were won several years before Jim Crow ended. It just doesn't mean what it used to.
It Rupp could’ve recruited black players back then, it’s untelling how many titles he would have. Works both ways.

EDIT: make no mistake, UK was at a major disadvantage because of that.

The NCAAT back then, were the best 8 teams in the country, you had to win your conference to go the NCAAT. 2012 UK would not be invited to the NCAA tournament under the old rules from back then. It was actually harder to win a title back then than today. No filler games.
THIS! Preach!

Ummmm 30 years would include 96, 97 and 98. Not to mention, Tubby had some excellent teams as well, outside of 98.
30 years JUST includes the 1996 title, one more year and it will beyond 30 years.. 2-3 more years and all of Pitinos legacy will be 30+ years ago. It's only growing further in the past. At what point do we start to see Calipari's first 8 years as the outlier, during a time when Kentucky basketball has largely been on the decline?

Tubby's years... meh. He won with Pitino's team and never got back to a Final4. There just isn't much meat in the 2000's. A few Elite 8s and a lot of teams that failed to meet expectations. He just doesn't cut it for Kentucky. Maybe for Virginia, or Oregon. But not here.

Oh okay lmao thought you had some fuzzy math going on there. 🤣

Ha no, it wasn't worded well.

But.. what above was I incorrect about? You guys laugh, but i mean.. what exactly are we holding onto as a fanbase? Half of our success came from before the Korean war. We did nothing over the last 28 years except get a lucky hire in Cal who was able to give us 6 or so amazing years.. if we didn't land him.. who do we get? What sort of success do we have? We are starting to look a little like Kansas fans who would hang on to Helms titles.

I know people don't like to hear that their team fading into the background, I don't like it either.. but I fail to see how it's not been on a slow death march for several decades now. We really really REALLY need to hope that the next AD can fix a lot of this. Because what's happening to UNC is a precursor to what we may be in for a year from now. If the next AD is Mitch 2.0, we are done.

This is insanity! If you’re strictly talking about titles, then yeah. However, UK has been a consistent winner in every single decade. Yall are focusing way too much on titles IMO.

How have our wins and tournament success stacked up since 2000? Which, isn't to say that the 90s don't count, they absolutely do.. but what have we done since? For example, a quick search shows that Duke, Kansas and Florida have the most wins in the 2000s. It didn't' show who was 4th. We are 3rd in wins from 2010 to 2020 (Again, we are pretty luck yo have landed Cal when he was looking to get out of Memphis, otherwise we are closer to the 8th range.

But for 2020? It's not good. One metric doesn't even have us in the top25.

And then other records:
Number of FInal4s since 2000: We're outside the top7.
Number of Sweet16's since 2000: we're 6th. (again, Cal did most of the damage for these).

I guess my question to those who disagree.. what would YOU call the last 25 years of Kentucky basketball? How to you rate it?

UConn: Multiple titles across 1999, 2004, 2011, 2014, 2023, 2024
Kentucky: Only 1 title since 1998 (2012)
UConn's run of titles over the past 25 years is probably second only to UCLAs run in the 60's and 70's.

I hate it, but facts are facts.

"Multiple titles across 1999, 2004, 2011, 2014, 2023, 2024"

🤦‍♀️ FFS, thats also History. to go back to 1999 but not willing to go back further is nothing but an agenda to get the numbers you want to get.

Is UConn better than Kentucky in the modern era? yeah, but they are better than every team in the modern era so should the other 300 something teams not named UConn just be ashamed or something? Also their rise came with the rise of ESPN who has been caught cheating with recruiting to help UConn women twice, you know they are cheating more than that even for the men. Its obvious whats going on
