Thought I would update with possible prospects for 2027 and portal needs. If nobody hits the portal, we have four open slots. I would expect Jan to bring in two from the portal to replace Kylie and Taylor's skillsets.

We would probably have two if not three spots the following year with #41 Jada Seubert CG committed. My hope is #32/#35 Destiny Manyawu a 6'3" PF/C, very athletic and # 46 Mya Wilson a 6'1" CG/SF.

#10 Nation Williams or #1 Kaleena Smith are long shots. Have not heard much about Madi Mingery or Harper Dunn so very unlikely.

CG Brinley Altenburg and #42 F/C Addison Medeck could also be in play.

Hope the women have a strong post season to keep the talent level coming to Iowa City.

What about the Stalwart girl from Oregon, her dad puts a ton of things out about her with CC like range, is Iowa actually interested in her?

I think her dad is clout chasing, but Iowa may be talking to her and that's why the family is hyping it up so much. She is a great shooter though

Portal moves backing up Chit-Chat will likely sway things that happen recruiting at PG. Only way Iowa (or most schools) get much movement from high school recruiting is if they are pushing their hand with leverage from (potential) portal moves. Otherwise, seems most recruits want to see next season's roster before making their own considerations.

*You have to remember that most high profile recruits have agents in the mix. Contracts, guarantees, incentives, etc.

The thing to be looking for at the moment, is what upperclassmen PGs might want to jump to Iowa for (probably) limited/reduced minutes. Or maybe Jensen stays with her current hand next season. Hard to know until things start happening after Iowa's tournament run comes to an end.

No offer for Stalwart that I know of. Seubert and Altenburg are both taller, have great handles and can shoot from the perimeter.

Exactly why she went out and got Chit Chat.

Thank you for setting everyone straight.

Chit Chat is already on the team so maybe it's possible, with some exceptions, Jan is going after bigger guards, which I assume means off guards as well as point guards. Just a thought.

I left Katie Muller off the list of offers. Forward from Dowling.

'28 PG offered is 5'8 (Leah DeWitt). Just too good for it to matter. Don't think height is a big concern for primary ball handlers. Of course though, I'm sure they would like height when they can get it.

I have some intell on the Wilson sisters (Mya 2027 and Ashlee 2030) but first some context on the source...

I referee basketball up here in MN and often work with a fellow ref (and now friend) whose daughter is the #1 rated recruit in MN for 2029 - she already has an offer from MN and upcoming visits / likely offers from multiple B1G, ACC, and Big East schools (although IA isn't pursuing her at this point). Anyway, she played high-level AAU ball with the Wilson's (different classes) at both Tartan and All Iowa Attack (although my friend's daughter has now moved to a WI AAU club because of geographic proximity).

He and his family personally knows the entire Wilson family through his interactions with them via the Tartan and All Iowa Attack clubs and this is what he told me (as/of about 4 weeks ago)...
  1. As good as Mya is, Ashlee is absolutely exceptional and much better (for her age) - and already has offers from IA and MN
  2. The two sisters plan on playing together in college
  3. They were very impressed with the statement the lunch with Caitlin Clark made on how much IA WBB values them
  4. Caitlin highly encouraged them to move to All Iowa Attack to advance their game (and was a major driver to them to do so)
  5. They also moved to All Iowa Attack given the tight relationship w/ Iowa WBB team
He then said: "the Wilson's are all about Iowa. I'll be shocked if they don't commit to Iowa" - his words, not mine.

Note: This conversation occurred before Jada Seubert committed and it looks like the Wilson's are also combo guards. More importantly, circumstances change of course especially given NIL. After all, many of us thought Maddyn Greenway was going to commit to IA as well so who really knows - especially at that age.

Anyway, take it for what it's worth. Anything could happen.

Love hearing of the interest even if all pieces are continually shifting. These relationships matter when the portal is at play.

*Things are going to get interesting with Iowa's Minnesota recruiting if the Gophers keep rising.

He didn’t say. I’ll ask him next time I see him (which should be fairly soon when the AAU spring / summer circuit begins) and report back.

After reading several stories about what went on at Tennessee, it seems like a combination of things. Wrong system that players did not fit. Players did not buy in. Both sides inflexible in their positions, accusations of lack of effort on the players. Entire roster turns over and Tennessee may have to keep Caldwell at least one more year. A train wreck of a program.

I was, and am, concerned about the positive direction the Gopher program seems to be heading but was informed by someone on this forum that it is not a big deal as we don’t get recruits from Minnesota anyway. Let’s hope we can change that narrative.
