People love Pebble but I didn’t think it was that great. I’ve played a few course I thought were better. Like surfing, all personal preference of what sort of tracks you like. They are all different. The scene around Pebble is what makes it all great to me.
I get that. Never been on the course. Closest was the touristy 17 Mile Drive while staying in Monterey. That and Big Sur were two really beautiful places.

Did see the tree so there's that.:ROFLMAO:

Chris (T37) could never get it going after the 1st Round. Shot Even Par on Sunday. He spent almost as much time in Bunkers (at least 6) as anywhere. His approach shots seemed to be the issue as it was part of 2025. He deserves credit for his scrambling.

Congrat to Colin Morikawa on his first win in 2+ years. Scottie Scheffler made quite a run. He was 7 Under for his round after 7 holes but came up short.

Chris still leads the FedEx Cup by 128 points over Scheffler with Morikawa moving into 3rd.

On to another Signature event, the Genesis at Riviera CC outside LA. Another smaller, big time field.

Quick note on LIV. Anthony Kim, yes the Anthony Kim that was out of golf for 12 years just won on LIV. Good for him. Not good for LIV.

Kim had an insurance policy that paid him if he couldn't play and might have been a reason he took so much yime away from competitive golf.
google found this;
>Yes, Anthony Kim held a disability insurance policy designed to cover him in the event of a career-ending injury
. This policy became a central mystery during his 12-year absence from professional golf between 2012 and 2024.

Key Details of the Insurance Policy
  • Value: The policy was widely reported to be worth between $10 million and $20 million, often cited as a tax-free payout.
  • The "Void" Clause: A critical condition of the policy was that it would be voided if he returned to professional competition. Kim himself reportedly told friends, "If I take one swing on Tour, the policy is voided".
  • Payout Status: Following his 2012 Achilles tendon injury and subsequent surgeries (including spinal fusion), Kim collected at least a portion of the disability settlement. In a 2024 interview, he confirmed the settlement's existence but stated he was not at liberty to discuss specific details or how it impacted his return.
  • Return to Golf in 2024
Kim ended his hiatus in early 2024 by joining LIV Golf as a wildcard player. His return effectively meant walking away from or potentially having to resolve the insurance settlement. Reports indicated that his contract with LIV Golf was likely structured to compensate for the lost insurance money.
    • Initial Contract: Kim originally signed a two-year deal (covering 2024 and 2025) as a league "wildcard," meaning he competed independently without being attached to a specific team.
    • Estimated Signing Bonus: He reportedly received a signing bonus of approximately $5 million to $7.5 million. This amount was often cited as a partial offset for the $10–$20 million insurance policy he voided by returning to professional golf.<

I think Kim was very smart to insure himself and stay away from returning to play until he felt ready to and not worry having to play on the tour less that 100%, knowing winning would be very difficult not being at his best and losing his card might result if he played poorly enough.
The deal he signed when joining LIV made walking away from his insurance policy worthwhile and allowed him to play competitively again .
This win proved walking away from the insurance money to play competitively again was a good move.
LIV gave him the money to play and not worry about money lost, just allow his competitiveness and talent to rule his game

Weather is absolute trash today. Rain all day. Tomorrow will be better but very cold, getting better each day. Sunday will be perfect. I'm not a Riv fan buy many are. Hopefully he can off to a quick start.

Makes sense. It's a mess out. Heavy rains and wind. You'd have to be a golf pyscho to play in this.
We played 18 at MB Nat'l after our hotel was closed and evacuations had started as Hurricane Hugo approached Myrtle Beach.

Boy, you could get some great distance off the tee if you were hitting with the wind.

So it was a delayed 1st Round with many not finishing at the Genesis.

Shockingly Scottie Scheffler (+5) is currently tied for last with Keegan Bradley after 10 holes. Short Hills' Max Greyserman is T5 in the clubhouse at 3 Under. The wind later in the day was a big factor.

Chris Gotterup was sailing along at 2 Under until 8 and 9 when his approaches came up way short, taking 3 strokes to get down for Bogey on both. Conversely his 2nd on the Par 5 11th ended 30 yards past the Pin. He has been able to scramble for a couple Pars with 2-3 clutch putts of 7'-10'.

He'll be on 12 when play resumes.

I still can't get over the hole with a sand trap smack dab on the middle of the Green.

Chris finished Round 1 Even Par, standing in the 30's.

In Round 2, he had a Birdie Putt of 3ft on the short Par 5 1st. According to Tourcast he missed it by a foot and a half to the Right? Can't imagine it happened that way. He missed 3 more 4-5 footers on the front which pretty much sealed the MC. He got to +1, 2 strokes from the Cut line, but Doubled 18 finishing +3.

Scottie Scheffler made an 7+ foot Birdie to make it on the number. He'll likely move into #1 in FedEx Cup standings. He needs to figure why his Thursday Rounds are un-Scottie like.

Short Hills Max Greyserman is currently T6. He's come very close a time or two but couldn't finish it off. He's got younger brothers, a Senior at Stanford, and Sophmore at Princeton, who are member of the golf teams. Max played for Duke.

Nice leaderboard heading into Saturday. The leader Penge has done well on the DP Tour. If he sounds familiar, he tied for 2nd with McIlroy when Gotterup won in Scotland. Behind him Bridgeman has been playing well, despite the 18th on Sunday at Pebble lol. You have Rory, Schauffele, and Adam Scott right behind.

Looking ahead Chris isn't scheduled to play next week but should be at the Bay Hill Arnie Palmer the following week.

You forgot to mention he was hitting irons when he lost those balls in the water.
Wait that’s bad? Why can’t stand playing not to lose in any sport. Not saying he couldn’t play it safe. But there was no reason to flirt with the water on those holes. Especially with an iron in your hands.

Hitting two balls in the water is something I have seen countless times from my own game....

I actually like Lowry. Think he'd be a blast to hang out with in a bar.

Golf is a crazy game even for the pros. Chris missed a 3' on 2 for a bogey then later makes a 32' on 14 for a Birdie.

Currently T9 but will drop a bit.

First things first, make the cut.......check.

I sometime swear ball manufacturers put water seeking chips in some balls and over the years I seem to have purchased more than my share.

Chris ended T9. I guess the afternoon gang ran into issues like Thursday's late starters.

He tees off at 1:10 Eastern. He missed by 1 player being paired with McIlroy, who tees off in the group before. That would have been fun watching them trying to out drive each other.

Chris played at my club after he missed the cut at Riv. It was fun to watch him drive the ball. It even sounds different.

So far of the 6 non Par 3's, Chris, even for the round, is 2 for 6 hitting fairways. 1 in trees, 2 in Bunkers, and 1 so far off it was described as "Unknown". Just not his day so far but still in Top 10 thanks to his comeback ability to still get Pars.

With the WD of Scottie Scheffler, Gotterup and Min Woo Lee are the only FedEx Top 10 entered in this weekend's Houston Open.

After the 1t Round, Chris is T31 with a 2 Under 68 in which he missed 3 or 4 7'-10' Birdie putts but made up for it with Birds from 18 and 72 feet!. He teed off a bit ago.

Trivia......

Prior to Chris the last NJ raised Tour pro to win a PGA Tour tourney was Oradell's Jim Mcgovern (Bergen Cath) at this very tourney in 1993 where he won the rain shortened Shell Houston Open over a golfer named appropriately, John Huston.

McGovern played regularly on Tour from 1991 to 1998 before walking away from the Tour. He made a 1 year return to the Tour 10 years later and played on the Nationwide Tour for a time after. Houston was his only win that went along with 14 Top 10's. His best finish in a Major was 5th at the 1994 Masters. He had 3 wins on what is now called Korn Ferry including beating former U of Arkansas teammate, John Daly by 2 strokes in his 3rd win.

My good friend and former roommate when we were in grad school together at RU, playing golf together 3-4 times a week at the RU course for $4 a round as it was right across the street from the eng'g bldg, grew up with McGovern in Oradell and they played a bit of golf together. My friend, who was/is a big hitter, said McGovern could hit the piss out of the ball and that he was a cool guy, so he always rooted hard for him once he made the tour, so I did too.

Gotterup at -8, -5 for the day.
Tied for 2nd best round of the day. He went from T46 to T12.

After an up and down round yesterday, he played very well today. Other than missing a 4' Birdie, he putted well along with staying out of trouble off the Tee. He was 2nd in Driving Distance (330.8yds) and 9th in accuracy (69.2%). That;s a heck of a combination if he can keep it up.

I root for Chris but after all he's gone thru medically and mentally, I'm really pulling for Gary Woodland. It'd be a great story.

Gary Woodland coasts to victory in the season's feel good story. 7 years since he won the US Open, he overcame all the health issues. Now he not only gets a 2 year exemption but also get to play the Masters while he still battles all the demons that have long followed him. Congrats Gary.

Props to his playing partners who hung back approaching 18 Green while encouraging the fans to cheer on Gary.

Chris finishes T6 with his 2nd 65 in a row. He putted well with 6 Birdies, 3 from 11, 11, and 18 feet. He was 4th in Driving Distance and T12 in Accuracy .

Chris stands 5th in the FedEx Cup and 7th in the Presidents Cup standings. He's not scheduled this week then it's off to the Masters.

There are a number of great groups including Gotterup's. Rory being the winner last year will play will US Amateur Champion Mason Howell, who is only 18! Spieth, Rose, Koepka. 3 US Open Champions, DeChambeau, Fitzpatrick, Schauffele.
But before Thursday comes, there is the great tradition of the Par 3 tournament which is highly entertaining on Wednesday.
