Joke? It’s Temple Football. Aside from being a waste of money, you would need to add at least 2 more zeros to the check if they are serious about getting Temple out of the AAC basement.
I hope you realize that half of people outside of this site would say the same about RU football. And many would even be grads of the school.

As usual you open a thread on the free board and see it filled with stupid comments.

The people saying its a waste of money are jealous because they will never be in a position to do that.

Good for the person donating if they believe in the mission.
Considering it was THEIR money to give for whatever GD purpose THEY wanted

Totally agree - but at least RU is part of the B1G. Non-P4 schools should shut down their football programs unless they are break-even or can demonstrate a clear tangible benefit to the school. Athletic Departments no longer manage the sports of universities - they are sports-based businesses. And almost all of them are failing and bankrupt = surviving largely on donations and subsidies. Even worse, there are no rules and Universities have to basically rebuild their businesses every year with increasing costs thanks to the transfer portal and facility improvements/maintenance.

Jealous? Believe in the mission? You sound ridiculous. It’s about paying a bunch of mediocre football recruits to play football for Temple all of which will bail the second they show any on-field potential. It’s doesn’t even remotely make sense but sure, to each their own. If someone incinerated $500K right in front of you what would you say = that was awesome and totally worth it?! No - you would think the dude was a moron and you could come up with dozens of ways that money would have helped real causes. But if your point is people are free to do whatever they want with their money then yes, you win.

Totally agree with you with your last two sentences. But it’s my fault that people posted stupid comments like the jerkoff above this post? I was just saying good for Temple for getting this donation and that this is the type of donations Rutgers could use.

Whatever.

“Muppet” LOL…Tico Brown the Message Board Clown here is your quote:

“I thought Hopkins was irrelevant because they’re not a Power 4 Program and “all programs that’s not Power 4 should shut down and blah blah blah…”

Are you one of those Goalpost Movers?”

IDK why Hopkins ever entered the discussion we were talking about Temple and low level D1 football schools. But sure whatever works for you pal.
Technically you mentioned Hopkins before I did…

Go **** yourself.

Northwestern’s new football stadium and donor billionaire Pat Ryan getting some press. This is how it’s supposed to work = build it and they will stay/come. But instead donations are diverted away from universities into players pockets. EVERYONE loses except the players. And 90-95% of football programs are losing money.

Pat Ryan and his family are the largest donors in Northwestern University history, contributing over $800 million to transform athletic facilities. While they directly fund massive infrastructure—such as football, basketball, and lacrosse facilities—their public donations focus on capital projects and university philanthropy rather than direct, named NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) payments to players.

I feel like I’m listening to someone who either failed math or doesn’t understand basic business principles. 90%+ football programs lose money. You can do math - right?

EVERYONE loses except the players AND all the AD employees and coaches and staff.

You say "donations are diverted away from universities to players pockets"
Are they?
Donations diverted away from universities ATHELTIC DEPARTMENTS is a net neutral.
The money going towards Schiano's country club membership/underwear stipend or Francis' "beer money" doesn't really matter.

I'll never understand how donating to pay coaches is somehow noble but donating to pay players is awful.

So Schiano and his has staff shouldn't have gotten raises?
Right?
Since the program loses money?

What point are you trying to make?

Agree on your point = coaches/AD employees.

But It’s not net neutral - not even close. Pat Ryan’s $800M stadium is a capital improvement that increases the value of the university (and arguably the state of IL). They also plan to use the stadium for other events which will generate add’l revenue for NW.

The point is if those capital improvement donations are converted to player payments you have nothing to show for that money unless perhaps you are UI or a CFP team (12).

Yes, and you have an unhealthy obsession with that, plus telling people what to do with their money
A good football program elevates the entire university, regardless if they lose money or not

Here's a thought - do what you want with your money
If someone who's much better off than you are wants to give money to something you don't believe in.... who gives a ****?

We all love Rutgers, but for Christ sake, Rutgers has sucked donkey nuts for the majority of our existence
Take a look in the mirror and realize that historically, we're not much better off than they are and, if not for our geographic location, would be exactly where they are right now

Newsflash, they've hosted Gameday... we haven't
They've kicked our *** a few times, which, given all of our natural advantages, should never happen
They've got guys willing to step up and write checks b/c they seen what happened at Indiana and realize anything is now possible w/NIL

We're on a college fb message board, talking about college fb, and you're mocking a guy giving money to Temple, which, given our history, or rather, lack thereof, is, at the very least, comical

The arrogance, hypocrisy and outright lack of awareness you've shown, and continue to show, truly knows no bounds

Schiano is responsible for onfield performance not financial performance. He’s Wins-losses not whether the AD finishes in the red or black.

Someone posted about the Temple donation for what? To show everyone here that even a joke program can get donations and cry about how RU lacks benefactors? If RU fans/alumni were buying what some of the suckers on this message board were selling we would be the next Indiana. NOBODY except the same jokers here talk about how paying players is a great idea. If it was a great idea we would all be donating!

Oh yeah, my “Arrogance and hypocrisy” for expressing an opinion on college football that’s shared by so many that the F’in POTUS is trying to address it?! Dude take your meds or try turning on the news.

Players are responsible for onfield performance not financial performance.

Spending money on players makes just as much sense financially as coaches.

Glad you agree that paying players, even thought ADs lose money, makes sense.

Show me your expenses for the past year and I bet I will come up with dozens (or more) of things you've spent money on that would be considered wasteful and could have gone towards a more noble cause. Depending on net worth and income, $500k for someone might be equal to $50 for someone else.

Football / Sports is entertainment. Whether you are paying for tickets, parking, cable/streaming, NIL, some form of donation or even and ISP so you can continue posing here, it's all a self-serving form of someone's seeking to enable or enhance their own entertainment level.

Also, the time anyone spends on sports watching, commenting, listening to podcasts casts, posting on forums ect also pertains. Just as you are trying to shame the $500k donor that he or she is wasting their money and should be contributing to better causes...... couldn't the time you are spending posting on this board be better spent on a more noble cause or charity?

You misunderstood = paying players makes no sense as shown by the finances of 90%+ of football programs.

RU has 600,000+ alumni. AD raised how much last year - less than $10M? Does that tell you RU fans/alumni think paying players is a great idea? This entire debate has nothing to do with my “Bernie Sanders” posts, as the pathetic donations represent the collective opinion on the matter. The handful of delusional fans on this message board crying about donations and clinging to their tailgates are literally a fraction of a fraction of a percent but act like I’m in the minority. Comical.

How much was raised prior to NIL?
Does that tell you RU fans/alumni think paying coaches or even having athletics is a great idea?

90+% of Atheltic Departments lost money BEFORE revenue sharing/NIL.
So does "basic busniess" mean paying coaches and having an Athleticd Department make no sense?

If the AD is losing money, how does giving Schiano a raise (and a country club membership and a clothing stipend) make "business sense"?

As I've said previously.
Any argument against "paying players" based on "but the AD already loses money!" is just uneducated.
Literally every other AD expense increases annually despite "the AD is losing money".
Schiano's salary doubled despite "the AD is losing money".
Brandin Knight is the 6th highest assistant in the country despite "the AD is losing money."

Maybe b/c it's a college fb message board where we talk about all things college football, and b/c we've actually had some history (and clearly, not all of it good) with Temple

You have no idea if Rutgers, or Temple, or anyone, will be the next Indiana
Nobody, including Indiana, thought that could happen

You're the one on here mocking the guy for giving a **** enough to donate to a cause he believes in for a school he has an affiliation with in order to win more games,
That thought process, where making fun of a guy for trying to win, in and of itself, on a college football message board, is the epitome of irony

According to the guy who runs this page, Schiano was Mr Football and was also handling NIL and other functions that usually handled by an AD. He controls every aspect of the Football Program right down to the BS noise pollution that spouted out in the PA during games that gives most people tennitus. Yes there was no AD at the time but Schiano makes it so that THE BUCK STOPS WITH HIM…

Don’t come after me with your ******** while not going after the man who runs the page and have been to all the pressers and said repeatedly that THIS IS SCHIANOS PROGRAM NO MATTER WHAT.

I can’t comment on what Schiano does or doesn’t do with regard to the finances. I definitely don’t think he’s earned his paycheck or convinced the RU fanbase to open their wallets. With that said, almost every school is struggling to raise money to pay players. People act like IU or Portnoy UM are the norm or easy to pull off. Not to mention donor fatigue and the portal is a disaster which is why big time coaches are now complaining and the POTUS is involved. Credit to RU fans they are not stupid enough (even the wealthy ones) to throw cash at a bunch of mercenaries that are holding football programs hostage. If the Temple anonymous donor wants to incinerate $500K it’s his right to do so. But I still laugh reading the press release:

“This investment will enhance our ability to retain and recruit student-athletes so that we can compete for championships.”
