KY losing Wes Unseld was devastating to me as an 8th-grader and life-long KY fan. What could've been if he had chosen to come to play for the Wildcats !! UCLA's run may not have happened.

Nobody ever said that about any of those guys. There is a big separation imo between Decker and these players. Unseld and Beard were heavily recruited by UK, Houston was unobtainable as he played for his dad, Tubby chose Bradley over Lofton, not sure why McDaniels was not pursued. Did Rupp prioritize Tom Payne at the time instead?

Not sure, but I think McDaniels, who was two (2) years ahead of Payne, was recruited hard by Rupp ... but he wanted to "stay home" and play at WKU, as they already had black players on their teams, including the great Clem Haskins in prior years.
