After digging more into his stats and gamelogs, he's definitely not top 5 even today.

The 3 point shooting is obviously a concern. But I'm willing to give some there IF you can score the ball at a high level elsewhere (See Juke Harris).

Lewis padded his stats vs weaker competition. He played 4 games vs SJU and UCONN. He had 26 points.

@Pelsyear on Twitter did a great break down of his stats vs tournament teams
8 games
1-7 records.
7 PPG
26.2% FG
30.6% 2FG
19.3% 3FG
44.4% FT
2.8 RPG
4 APG
1.2 SPG
2.6 TO

He's just not a dude at this point. I think you're better off going and bringing Lowe back.
Maybe he takes a massive step forward.

But Mark Pope and Kentucky REALLY don't need to be in the maybe business this off-season. Go get proven guys and hope THEY can take another step forward.
yeah bc popes crushed it with proven guys lol

I mean, I get it.

But if he strikes out again this year and has to settle, his fate will be sealed.

I'm still largely of the belief that the original KSR article was the most likely thing. Pope didn't think he had to/didn't want to be in bidding wars. Pope got emotional.

You've gotta have 2 or 3 guys that you're winning the bidding wars for. And the rest you can find "value."

Yeah, it’s ok to overpay for stars, need to be right about them though. The problem comes from overpaying for role players.

As someone else said, the early chatter is Texas or Miami.

We might be able to get in on him. He's probably a top 5 PG in the portal.

Edit: Upon further review, he's not a top 5 PG today even. Do not want. If he comes to Kentucky, it needs to be as a backup PG. And we saw how that went last year.
Good grief! He'd be a starter day one. Some of you people are goofy. Who are you hoping for? Magic or Stockton?

It becomes difficult to take someone seriously when you present things this way. The only step above Acaden Lewis is Magic or Stockton?

I'm hoping for Isiah Johnson, Ebuka Okore if he enters, Alex Wilkins, Dedan Thomas, even Bizjack.

Again, it's easy to look at Lewis's overall numbers and think he had a solid freshman season. If you look at his numbers vs Tournament teams--he's not shown much to think he's ready.

If we want an "ok" point guard, sure. He'll probably be "ok."

I'm tired of not going to the Elite 8. I want a PG that I think can get us there. I have more confidence in SEVERAL PG's than I do Acaden Lewis.

All the arm chair experts probably haven't watched him play. Yeah, his 3 pt% was down but he's great at facilitating offense. Handles the ball well and doesn't get sped up. I'd say in the right system his numbers increase next season.
Did the defense make his FREE throw shooting terrible? MO would smoke him.

I had hoped Lewis would be UK’s starting PG as a SOPHOMORE. If he enters the portal I guess it’s possible I could get my wish.

But I wonder how Pope feels about him now. The narrative was that Lewis decommitted because Lowe was a JR and he was concerned he’d have to play backup for 2 years. But just the other day Pope said Lewis actually helped recruit Lowe to UK, and Pope specifically blamed Lewis’ decommitment on “family issues.” At the time of the decommitment I wondered if the kid had pressure regarding money due to his father’s issues, and whether he was being pushed/used to get as much money as possible as quickly as possible. So, I’m now thinking maybe those issues are still driving the decisions now.

Regardless, I still like Lewis’ skills a lot. I think he’ll have a much better 3pt. shooting % next season – that’s generally always been a freshman thing - and all the other skills are already there. For me personally, having watched him in high school and 4-5 times this season, if Pope is comfortable that stuff going on in the background isn’t going to be detrimental, I would be good with Lewis being picked to be the starting PG next season.

No! The kid is a quitter. We don't want no quitters on are team. We are Kentucky! We only want winners not quitters!
Exactly what you don't want - a mercenary looking for a payday, no loyalty at all. My god, when will some of the idiots here learn? It's like no one can look at UConn and understand why they are winning (culture/system/loyalty) and think the next shiney thing is the answer. Wake up people.

We aren’t going to the F4 with Pope, get real. I just don’t want to play on Wednesday in the SECT anymore or lose 14 games in a season. This kid is good enough to overcome Pope’s lack of coaching and get us to 25 wins, a top 4 SEC finish and a S16.
You DO understand what problem that result creates, don't you?

Plus he’s left handed we need right handed point guards

Ebuka will be the number one pg (unless Tanner enters)and possibly the number one player in the portal. On3 is more up to date currently than 24/7. 24/7 doesn’t have Juke in there rankings yet, On3 has him number one with a 98.5 Transfer Rating which would have been second to Yaxel(98.88) last season. Okorie is on a whole other level than Lewis.
As of right now first calls are to Juke and Paulius

His fate is already sealed. The Pope era at UK is over. It just hasn’t been time stamped yet.

How's he a quitter? Please explain. He changed schools bc his Dad was charged by the FBI.
I purposefully wrote my post as more of a joke because I knew we would get a post like that (which we did after I wrote mine). i was just having some fun. I guess I should have made it more obvious than I did. Personally, I don't have an opinion at all.

In the portal era you cant let emotion influence decision making. If you miss on a kid be professional because with the portal they might be on the move in a year. I get he decommitted but he's a good player.
He was one of my favorite players in the class. His shooting % concerns me greatly, but he has the talent to be a really good player.

You guys can't actually be thinking this is a final 4 level pg are you? Come on.
He’s not even a 60% free throw shooter and his numbers against legit competition are bad.
Thing is, some of the dudes in here hoping he comes to UK, are the same ones that keep saying Lowe was terrible. Lowe is rated much higher than this kid.
Pope needs to get an actual stud, not some flawed kid that's always on the move to what he thinks is greener grass.

So you’re upset because he decided to start 32 games in the BigEast instead of playing behind Lowe - Jasper & Aberdeen when he was being told he was 2026 Draft material.
This is the point guard UK needs .

If you can't shoot as a freshman you can't shoot .. you might cite an outlier or two but they'll be hard to find

Less than 30% is a huge red flag
