Is it assumed Alvaro returns?

Does not martter about scholarship as long as hes on the team takes up roster spot

This. Roster limit is 15. Whether they are on scholarship or not is irrelevant, aside from the folks paying the bills.

While I totally understand your point, I don't think it is reasonable to get 15 guys who all are going to play. I think we need to keep some solid practice guys who are happy to be Hawks.

Well if we only can take one portal guy then perhaps you ask Koch without the schollie to drop off the team, cmon this is big money sports time now and not time to have a player like him on the team

Leistikow mentioned on a podcast that Bennett, Alvaro, and Brenden Hausen represented about $5 mil in NIL. I about spit my drink out. Sure, Stirtz was worth a lot, but Alvaro outside of 2 tournament games was below expectations. Hausen was a complete no show. That's a lot of wasted money. I know there are a lot of stories like that out there from other schools too, but the numbers are just mind boggling.

Owen Freeman got between $1.8M and $2.0M from Creighton. He was a bust, too.

Yea. But anybody that watched Iowa basketball the last two years under Fran knew that Owen put up a lot of points on bad basketball teams. Still can’t believe McDermott took Freeman (and paid for him) after so many people at Creighton didn’t want him, like Dix and the new head coach.

15 limit is for guys that "might" get to play. Can still have "walk-ons" over 15, but if they're not listed among the 15 at the start of the season they can never play in a game

People weren’t knocking down our door to come play at Iowa. You play the hand dealt you. Alvaro on paper (and 50% of the time on the court ) fit the bill as a 6-10 guy who has skills and can stretch the floor. Hausen obviously Ben thought could be another 3 pt shooter like he’s always had. I have no idea what happened there. Total miss clearly. **** happens. We were still good enough to make the Elite 8. Free agents as you see in all sports sometimes work and sometimes don’t. Yes, you look really smart when a guy is a stud but when he’s a bust you look dumb. That’s life.

I would think given rev share, our NIL budget from last year, a bump in NIL during season and tournament, plus a Folgy pay cut or gone altogether and Hausen/Stirtz money we could find a PG and C with those dollars. All that said, I think that totals about 5-8 million for those players, no? Yet, I'm sure current players like Cooper, Sage, etc would get some bumps there too...still nuts we are even talking about this, who would've thought a few years bacK? (Shakes head).

2 million for Alvaro and 1.7 million for Bennett is what I heard. That would mean 1.3 for Brenden.

sounds like we have $12M to spend on the 2025-26 roster.

$5M total might go to two players: a really good PG ($2.5M) & a really good center/rim protector ($2.5M).

*This

BMC wasn’t really in a position to be too selective about whom he could bring in.

After an Elite 8 run and with a larger NIL arsenal, BMC will have far more options.
