What a dumb post. UK doesn't want that lowlife here. He'd never get a sniff here unless Ron Jurich was the AD. The "win at any costs so I can beat my chest and moon the UT neighbor" clan can kick rocks. The University of Kentucky isn't going slumming just to please the clowns of the fanbase.
UK under Brainfart and the old geezer in the presidents office clearly doesn’t want any winning here either.

Cal had a worse reputation than Oats when he was brought in here. You fools keep praying for some choir boy to come win titles here but that’s not gonna happen. You clearly have to have an edge and chip on your shoulder to get it done. 4 straight titles are about to be won by coaches most would consider an *******. Who GAF? If they’re winning and aren’t breaking any laws then i don’t care how pissy the coach makes some of you.

Sure it is. He could have fired Pope last week and hired Oats. Clearly he and Eli can just do whatever the hell they want without needing the BOT’s approval so who cares if the BOT supposedly had Oats on the no contact list two years ago.
Can you imagine the joy, the jubilation there would be all over BBN if that happened? Oats comes walking in his first press conference with Stokes in tow. We're back baby!

We didn’t want him at UK, he is more crooked the Pearl. Plus he seems like a dickhead
Hurley is the biggest dickhead in CBB and is about to win 3 titles in 4 years.

It makes no difference if the coach is a dickhead or not. If he wins here then everyone will love him. If he doesn’t then he will be hated. It won’t matter how much of a good little boy he is if he doesn’t win. Pope has proven that. I’d say it’s safe to say the majority of BBN hated Cal and thought he was a slime ball at Memphis and yet he was nearly universally loved within a year here. Some of yall have to get over moral bs. The best coaches are usually going to have some ******* in them. Learn to like it while winning or hire another “beautiful” nice guy and finish digging out plot site next to IU and UCLA in the blueblood graveyard.

Nate Oats has made exactly one Final Foul with Alabama. He made the S16 this year. We have half the board saying Pope had a ****** season his first year when he made the S16.

Nate Oats isn't leaving the state of Alabama, especially 2 years ago

He just got divorced, and had multiple kids under 18

He would hardly ever see his kids if he leaves the city where their mom lives
I saw numerous bama fans say that divorce story was false two years ago. That his wife was sick at that time and they didn’t divorce.

This is the dumb post. Sounds like UK fans before cal came. “Sleazeball” “cheater”. These were words uttered about cal. You love pope we know. We know. Never saw your user name until Pope showed up

I remember this rumor that’s all it is. Who in their right mind would want to raise their daughters in Alabama. It’s a bs claim

That’s been a bit of a wild ride. There was absolutely zero public acknowledgement of it until this week when he suddenly announced his engagement to another woman, but he apparently did actually get divorced. Whether or not that actually affected his job decisions or not is a lot less clear. I kind of doubt he was ever leaving anyway if Alabama was willing to commit this kind of resources for him.

Pope fan. There’s no one on your list because they are all human and make mistakes. He must be doing something good to pay him like bama is. Of course pope fans are very satisfied.
Has nothing to do with Pope. I an not a Pope fan. I'm just not an *******

Oats would never be considered again after his coaching failures has came to light and people are able to see that he will have to get incredibly lucky to ever win a title with his play style.

Oats has ran the SEC since being at Bama, a football school. Alabama has the most wins in the league since hiring Oats. It wouldn’t be quite the same but that’d be like Stein having the most wins in the SEC 6 years from now.

This year was Oats worst in many years and it was still better than Pope’s best of his career. If he can do what’s he’s done at Bama then you’d be a fool not to think he wouldn’t do even better here.

Besides, there’s only one clear cut better option than Oats and I don’t see Hurley going anywhere. Especially if he wins #3. Other guys like Golden or May are at the same level of Oats.

One thing is certain, UK is going to have to pay out the *** to get a legit coach. All these schools with proven guys are locking them up with big money deals because UNC is looking now and they know we will be next year. If UK can’t get one of the 3-4 guys that would basically be a sure thing then I’d rather they just hire Pitino for a 3-5 year stopgap to get the program back on the right path while hopefully other coaches prove themselves. The absolute LAST thing that needs to happen is UK making another bad hire or even a hire that “might” work out. A guy like the ISU coach or Hoiberg is someone I’d put in that category.

UK is going to be in an almost identical situation next year that they were in back in 2008, maybe worse. We’ll be even further removed from a final four or title than we were in 08 and we will likely be coming off back to back seasons as bad as 07 and 08. That was a do or die hire when UK got Cal. It’ll be the same do or die situation next year. We were another bad hire from being IU in 09 and we’ll be another one from being them next year as well.

Agreed. I think this season showed he absolutely needs a stud to be a threat. You can say that about many coaches.
Tf are you even babbling about? Dude has made 4 straight Sweet 16s. His last 3 seasons were Final Four, Elite 8, and Sweet 16. Show me the programs outside of UConn that has done that. Oh, and he ran into buzz saw Michigan in the Sweet 16, and played them better than anyone else in the tourney. Sure as hell looked better than Tennessee and ‘Zona against them. Had he had UT’s path, he’d have been back to the Elite 8. And he did it without their second best player, who shoots over 43% from deep on high volume. You people people are dumb as fck.

Alabama basketball coach Nate Oats divorced his former wife, Crystal, in 2023. In April 2026, Oats announced his engagement to Alex Accetta, a former Alabama basketball operations staffer and current Dallas Mavericks employee. Oats and his ex-wife, Crystal, have three children together.

Oats is at Bama, the biggest football brand. Pope is at UK, the biggest basketball brand. If you don’t understand the differences in resources, tradition, investment, money, NIL, fan following, etc then you don’t understand how this works. In the simplest terms, put Oats at UK and he would kill it. Put Pope at Alabama and they look like Ole Miss.

He just got a new deal that puts him in the top 5 paid coaches.

I can’t put into words how much I hate Barnhart.

The fact that some of you guys still think Oats was/would have come here is laughable. He was not leaving Bama and said so on multiple occasions. Had bama even thought he was sniffing this job they would have thrown bank at him just like they did here.

Others have made similar runs. UT, 3 straight elite 8’s. Duke 3 straight elite 8’s with one of those being a Final Four. Way too much Oates fascination around here imo. As much as his name comes up you’d think Oates was Danny Hurley.

To be fair, that just came out this month in a radio interview where he said he was engaged, to a former Alabama staffer of all things. They kept that divorce secret and on wraps for 3 years !!! that's why everybody said it was rumor because it couldn't be proven true and Nate himself never said anything about it.
