…you know, the ones that matter, Football, men’s basketball, and baseball eh? USC is comically warped in priorities. I love women. I love basketball. Women’s basketball is awful and many of you have convinced yourselves that this is ok. Glad they win but the AD/bot/alumni demand nothing out of men’s sports. The results show it. Zero motivation to improve when $ flows without accountability. It’s ok to demand better, especially regarding the things that move the meter.

It is ok, but not nearly as fun to watch as many make it out to be. I like the final four.

I won't call you out, but I will provide a couple of facts. LSU spends more than we do on Women's Basketball and ran a deficit of 8 million dollars last year to continue getting beat by us. Texas spends more than us too. There are some reports that Texas spends over 20 Million dollars a year on Women's Basketball. They got eliminated last night. I rarely see people complaining about what those programs spend. Don't see anyone complaining about UConn either and they have been spending over 10 Million on Women's Basketball for years. Spending and priorities come up when South Carolina and Dawn Staley start winning. If you don't like Women's Basketball, cool. I don't like some sports either. Soccer, Baseball, and any Car Racing come to mind. However, if those sports float your boat, have at it and I certainly don't begrudge whatever good fortune those sports receive.

While I tend to prefer men’s basketball, I also genuinely enjoy women’s basketball—especially the Gamecocks. They play a physical, defense-first style and represent the University of South Carolina with pride. Dawn Staley is one of the top coaches in college basketball, and her teams consistently rank among the nation’s best. I value winning the right way, and I fully support and celebrate our women’s basketball team. I don’t understand why some “fans” feel the need to criticize our strongest, most-decorated athletic program.

And that's the whole point. Coach Staley generates a tremendous amount of good will for USC, which cannot always be quantified by $$$.

ALL sports matter. As I've posted many times in the past, all varsity athletes commit many hours of practice to their sport. We should all want all athletes to compete well and represent USC well, regardless of how many sports we care to follow or not follow.

SC WBB is the best sports program this university has produced since 1802, and it’s not close. Either embrace it, or stfu. Some of you are ignorant douchebags.

It baffles me that people are proud we're a women's basketball school.

I get that there is a segment of the fanbase who likes wbb. Go for it, that's your choice.

I also see part of the OP's point that some fans seem to be convincing themselves as much others that they love wbb.

A segment of the fan base that likes football? I’d say that’s the understatement of the year so far. I think it’s great the WBB team is a powerhouse and would like them to win the natty every year, but cannot really bring myself to care or watch much. I might watch the national championship. I want the basketball team to be competitive and will definitely watch some baseball, but those sports are more contingent of being successful for me. I’m ride or die with football.

That's a good attempt for me at being snarky.

There are those who feel that football is the be-all of athletics and could not care less how other varsity sports perform. Wanting all sports to compete well, perform well, and represent USC well is not the same as following all sports in detail.

As an example, I don't follow the golf teams, but if someone posts abut the men's team competing for the national title, I'll thank them for the update, wish the team well, and as the poster to post how the team did. Not the same as following the team. Why should football be any different? Respectful, thought replies to that question are appreciated.

I was going to say "ashamed" was the wrong word, but it might fit. We're openly made fun of by being called a wbb school, I dont go along with embracing that.

But I understand the sentiment of supporting all sports. I just dont agree with it.

I had another thought, do the people who claim to support ALL our sports really do that? There are sports that are never even mentioned here. Women’s lacrosse, I cant think of a time it was ever posted about. Would wbb be like that if we weren't as successful in it? (I guess thats basically asking if a large portion of the wbb support is band wagon-ish.)

I fell sorry for those who make fun of us by calling us a WBB school. They must be silently jealous.

There's a different between (passively) supporting all sports and following all sports.

Yeah.... they're jealous. Thats it. (Please note the malfunctioning sarcasm font.)
Ya know, I really don't care if they are jealous or make fun of us. I want us to the be the best we can be in as many sports as we can.

I was in a local Costco store about a month ago and happened upon one of the demonstration tables where they were giving away sample fruit drinks. I was sampling a couple when someone came up and asked the demonstrator which was the most popular flavour. In a somewhat gutsy move, I said to this person "Ma'am, who cares which flavour is most popular? What's important is which flavour do you like best."

Thats a valid opinion, imo. Just as valid as someone who would sacrifice the wbb program in a heartbeat to move the NIL to our football team.

Agreed on the drinks analogy. I also agree with the person who walks past that table and doesnt take any of the drinks because he/she likes coke. (The drink, not the powder)

LOL on the coke. But I like your analogy. Valid. Let everyone do and be their best so long as it doesn't impact another's ability to be and do their best.

This seems like one of those dumb arguments that only Gamecocks fans get into. Is it possible to be glad that we have the most dominant women's basketball program of the last decade while also preferring that our men's sports, especially football, were better? Or do we have to assume that our success in women's basketball is the achilles heal of our football program? No, I don't want to be known as a "women's basketball school," but I see no reason to assume that if we can start sucking in WBB, our football team will be better.

Rather than being critical, if you are a Gamecock fan, you will do two things:

1. Pull for the gals to bring SC another national championship;
2. You will learn from the 2 most successful HC hires (Staley and Tanner) at Carolina. Hire a young, proven Head Coach who has taken teams to post-season play more than once, preferably a few times. Next time there's an opening in any sport at Carolina, follow that model.

Agreed.

But if we really want to get into the weeds, we could argue that any penny spent on any sport is impacting another teams ability to do their best.

Specifically, any penny (NIL) spent in any other sport is money that could go to another sport.

But thats a LONG rabbit hole.

Its Easter. Happy Easter everyone.

I find it sad that people think it has to be an either or proposition. I never looked at it like it was our man versus our women. That’s a small minded thought process.

I think the either/or comes in now that NIL is a finite source of success.

Right or not, there's a debate that the money spent on one program really is being taken from another.

But like I said above, that is a big, long rabbit hole.

Granted, this is a dead period.

If our football can't win spending over 47 Million a year, I don't think the over 5 Million the Women's Basketball team loses is going to win us a National Championship in football. I get it that football is the money maker. They bring in over 78 Million a Million Year.. However, I don't see our Baseball Team getting attacked. They lose over 1 Million to win absolutely nothing and provide little exposure. I don't see our Track Team getting attacked and they lost over 3 Million Dollars last year to do what? It's always Women's Basketball. It just seems like an argument rooted in jealousy and hate.

Apparently you dont read very well, as my coments included all sports that arent football, with the possible exception of mbb, since it makes money.

But I understand youre insatiable desire to play the victim, so responding to what people actually say is not on your radar.

Also, ill say that I dont think anyone thinks an additional 5 million will win a national title. And no one ever said that. ( I sense a theme here) Again, the words people are actually using are "make us more competitive", or as I've been saying " That money could probably buy us a pretty decent OL."

But hey, what's the point of sensible discussion when you can cry victim and tell people they're jealous and hateful?

I read it and I also remember your previous posts. You are a part of what I call the Dawn Staley cycle of hate. Stage 1: Accuse her of not being able to win the big one. Stage 2: Accuse her of just being a recruiter. She only wins because she gets the best players. Stage 3: She wins, but she is too woke. Stage 4: Attack the entire program and say Women's Basketball should cease to exist.

How much NIL money goes to our football program compared to other football programs? How much goes into our women's basketball compared to other wbb programs.? I have no idea. Maybe there is public information that someone can enlighten. How does our overall NIL efforts compare to others? The last information I saw was published by 247Sports in August 2024. We were 18th in the nation. Are we getting the biggest bang for the bucks? People can draw their own conclusions. I will just say this: not all families, individuals, organizations, corporations nor governments have equal ability in managing money.

Then you will have no problem finding a post where I say 1 or 2? Should be easy if youre not just lying and making this up, right? I'd say I'll be waiting, but we both know you've completely made that up, and cant back it up.

As for #3? Could care less if she wins, but is very woke. So you struck out there too.

And for #4, apparently you are too stupid to understand written English. I said every sport not football, and maybe MBB. But I'd like to see you find a post where I said "only" wbb should be defunded, like you claimed.

I eagerly await your whiny backtracking when you realize you cant back up any of the claims you just made about me.

So come on, let's see all these posts you "remember" me making.

Or will it be your typical MO? Make an accusation, realize you you're wrong, cry about something unrelated, play the race card then quit the thread? I know which one my money is on.

I doubt that there's any good source to accurately give you that answer. Too many conflicting reports, and too much is not reported.

I personally would love to see the real numbers for teams across the board. I think it would be very interesting info.
