Obviously the resurrection is the best news but, the decline of crawfish prices is next in line! Been beef like prices this year! Can't afford steaks or crawfish. So bring on the peak, and let the decline begin this week.

I'm sure I'm going to get roasted for this so let me have it.
I've eaten hundred and hundreds and hundreds of pounds of crawfish in the last 60'ish years. I've sat and peeled leftovers many times the day after (assuming there were leftovers) to make crawfish chowders using any leftover potatoes, corn, shrooms etc. But I'm done. It's taken me decades to decide it's just not worth it, peeling and peeling and peeling to get a few bites, I'm done. I'll eat the sausage, taters, shrooms, brussel sprouts, etc etc and drink my beer and everybody else's but no more peeling

Ha. You’ve moved to the dark side. Laziness. I was born with the gene so I’ve never been into crawfish as a result.

I prefer to think of it as "time preservation". As I've gotten older I figure I've got less time to be around so I prefer to do productive things with the time I've got rather than standing there peeling something for a bite of meat. When I can find shrimp that have had the shells pre-split I'll still buy them and peel them. But don't even get me started on crabs, I've never been one to sit and crack any kind of crabs, blue crab, crab legs of any kind, what a huge waste of time.

Concur, crawfish is very overrated. It's more about the vibe at boil than the crawfish.

Crawfish are the chicken wings of the sea.
Way too much time and energy spent to get way too little food.
The appeal(pun?) comes in the communal group activity that is taking place.

One of both crawfish and chicken wings' original reasons for their grassroot popularity was because in the "beginning" they were both cheap . So much for that now .

Barbecue too.

The only cheap chicken left is the thighs and those have gone up in price too. I will eat the thighs over any other cut of chicken especially if it’s fried. Grilled or smoked thighs are so good too.

I’ve been on the too lazy to peel crab and lobster trim for a long time. Same with cleaning brim , too many bones too little meat. Get a steak or burger instead.

Peeling? What veteran crawfish man even has to peel? I respect the careful consideration of managing your time more wisely. If you are like me, as we age, the more we wrestle with those thoughts, but there is absolutely nothing that can get in the way of consuming at least 5-10 lbs of extra large steaming hot freshly boiled crawfish in front of a disgusting plastic table. With the voice of Neil Price booming somewhere in the background, and sunglasses to hide my gaze.

Living in South MS never gets old, mainly because of close access to the finer things in life.

There's no fresh crawfish where I live. So, out of desperation Friday night I heated and ate 5 lb of frozen/in shell/boiled crawfish. And, yeah, it's as bad as it sounds. So, forgive me when I say, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR Y'ALL'S WHINING ABOUT HAVING TO PEEL FRESH, JUICY, SPICY CRAWFISH!!!

I'll bet a guy like you also has a problem with chauvinistic crawfish boil culture and leftover peeling sustainability.

I rescind the invite I sent you for next Saturdays boil. It's final.

Same for the bream for me, nothing like finding a big bed of bluegills this time of year. I'll still catch 'em all day long but I'm not going to clean a single one. I've got 2 different people that will take all I catch and that's fine with me. Matter of fact if they know I'm going I'll come home the day before to a box of crickets and a 6 pack waiting for me

Is this a new low? A thread bashing both crawfish, and wings. I sometimes order hot wings as an appetizer before my crawfish come out.

Are chicken wings hard to eat? That’s like saying spaghetti/pasta is bad because the noodles are long.
I’ve gone in the complete opposite direction with chicken wings over the years. Growing up, I wasn’t a big fan. Probably because they either weren’t as readily available as they are now or else my parents just weren’t going to spend the extra money for them.

Either way, I absolutely love a good chicken wings these days.

Chicken wings are fine if you stick to the drumsticks. Used to go to a bar and watch Monday night football that had 30 hot barbecue wings for ten bucks and pitchers of beer for happy hour. Not a good way to stay lean.

I'm with you. Personally, I prefer shrimp and crab if I'm going to be cracking anything I'm going to eat. People put way too much salt in the boiling pots too.

EVERYTHING you just said but Stella ?!?!

Crawfish boil beer is an ice cold Bud Light or Miller Lite, a Natty Lite or Mich Ultra I guess is acceptable too.
