Interestingly, although Maryland is undefeated at 12-0 and ranked #1, they haven’t been obliterating teams like some of those incredible Northwestern teams did a few years ago.
9-5 Syracuse
17-9 Virginia
10-7 Georgetown
17-15 St. Joe’s
16-12 Princeton
16-9 Hofstra
13-6 JMU
15-7 Oregon
15-9 Penn
13-7 USC
15-12 Hopkins
14-13 Penn State
So clearly a really good team with a very good defense, and a solid offense that mostly is NOT blowing teams away.
A really difficult game, to be sure, but this Rutgers team can score and defend, so they have a puncher’s chance of keeping it close.
A lot hinges on the health of our superstar draw control player, Katie Buck, who left the game against SDSU on Monday with what looked like an ankle injury — she had to be helped off the field and wasn’t putting much pressure on the leg — and never returned. Possession is key, and without Buck, it will be a challenge on draw controls, as Maryland has won 189 out of 300 draws this year, good for a staggering 63%.
