Lol. I’m not impatient about the commits. More so just pointing out there is a noticeable difference in talent levels as of now. I think the dead period after NCAAs is a new wrinkle. Maybe it helps guys take a deep breath themselves and not rush into the portal. Without Stanford, which is unique because of all the graduate transfers, there’s really a drop off in talent as of now.
....maybe? I mean Ryan Crookham, AJ ferrari (again), Tyler Knox, Hunter Garvin, Fugitt....pretty good start. If you look at thay link, you can see several good guys entered well after the opening date.

The University’s compliance department has to or could hold names that enter the portal for 48 hours. So, names are public for like a few days after they declare they’re going in

Fat stacks of cash not available, only revenue sharing, making the differences between schools smaller.

not sure if that’s why, but I was wondering if that would have an effect.

This is completely false.

(And only a few schools are giving wrestling a significant cut of the revenue sharing pie.)

Don’t know if anyone saw Chris Ayer’s post about the portal and his take on the recent crop of Stanford guys going into the portal.

I enjoyed the subtle jab at ISU. As a wrestling fan, I hope all the guys stay at Stanford and Ayer’s doesn’t lose his guys to ISU or Michigan.

As a sport, parity is good. If Garvin, Norman, Knox, Provo, and Cardenas stay at Stanford, that lineup will be salty…. Hope this late push from Ayer’s and Stanford spoil the ISU party.

I think Duke would be a national champ right now if he chose IOWA
Sure why not, TnT have a rich history of true freshman national champs. The list: Spencer lee... And that's the the list. *Two redshirt freshman champs, one actual and one super redshirt who was technically a RS sophomore I believe thanks to a lost year of eligibility because Vs Tech were jilted lovers. Hard to argue with you given that track record.

In fairness, I can only think of one true freshman national champ for cael as well, Mark Hall. Which, if true means David Taylor just had more true freshman national champs in one year than TnT and Cael combined in their careers....That's a wild and concerning stat for the rest of college wrestling outside of Stillwater..PSU included.

Who said coaching does not matter?
Why is Duke not a national champ right now, did Carl fail?
I think you are a good guy grip but maybe a tad slow. I bet you can prove Babe Ruth wasn't good at baseball because he struck out. Spencer Lee wasn't good at wrestling because he lost. Cael isn't good at coaching because one of his wrestlers lost. All coaches have wrestlers lose, it is simply a fact that it happens to Cael far less than it happens to most others. This is how coaches are judged by normal fully functioning people. I think you know this and are simply trolling so enjoy yourself.

You are really missing the point lol you think im saying Brands is a better coach??? Lol im saying coaching matters little.. the draw the bring for big time talented recruits is the most important part... Taylor and Cael are better cause they draw in whoever they want
They draw whoever they want because everyone save a couple of Iowa fans knows they are the best coaches. Chicken or egg ? Kids who dream of NCAA and World and Olympic titles want to wrestle for guys they believe can get them there. The best coaches always recruit better.

The biased fan in me would say because a takedown was waved off. The real answer is wrestling is really fking hard and Duke waited until far to late to push the issue. A lesson he admitted he learned in his post match presser.

You're arguing with a brick wall. You'd have a better chance at Bulldogging the Mississippi and pinning its ears down flat, than changing his opinion.

Babe Ruth struck out more batters then he struck out at bat. You see, for some its hard to look 3 steps ahead thats why for some such as yourself it's difficult to understand the point that is being made. I suggest you stick to the long winded ******** and leave the complex conversations to people that understand.

Maybe Duke had a bad night? I remember a certain superstar who got beat by Ronnie Bresser and pinned twice. Promise you Duke won't get pinned in his college career or beat by a low level talent like Bresser.

Kind of like when Brooks got pinned by Coleman?

edit- not pinned but was counting lights and lost to a much inferior opponent.

Low level talent? You are the type of guy that should spend an hour in the room with a 2x AA and see how that goes. Sometimes the ignorance on this board floors me…

Okay, good take. You only answered half of the question, why did you ignore the second part?

What? Babe Ruth struck out as a batter 1330 times. As a pitcher he struck out 488 batters.

Nope, not intentionally at least. I apologize, I just didn't think that was a serious question.lol But here it is : No, Cael did not fail because a true freshman took 3rd.

Putting up all those stats before baseball was integrated is like putting up a **** load of stats in the NHL without Canadians aloud to play.

Allowed. And it shows how they compared to the competition at that time. Which is all you can do.
For sure. Just one of those random things that's fun to poke at. Especially since no one on here ever watched babe ruth play and are only working off what we read and were told.

TBF, they have only had 3 guys I thought could win as true freshmen. Metcalf, Lee and Angelo. Three sure fire blue chips ( in my opinion) in 19 years. That is as many as Jimmy Z had in half the time ( Perry, Mocco, and Tshirts)
