didn’t watch whole thing but had cut on in background amongst other stuff. saw enough to tell was an absolute epic series, a heartbreaker, a choke, and nearly UNC’s biggest conference series win in a couple years. It’s a slow and painful process of improvement.

Agree with Honkytonk. Tough loss, would have been a great series win but pitching / defense let down in game 3 (after stealing game 2). Hope it doesn’t demoralize the team. It’s already much more exciting than the late-Papa era.

And getting better pitching should be possible. Seems like the knowledgable people here think it’s more development than recruiting. Is that right?

You cannot blame this on the coaching staff. I blame the AD and company. We all know that pitching is important in softball. Megan and Staff need some NIL money to help get better pitching on this team. For what she has to work with, money wise, facility wise, etc. She and her staff are doing a tremendous job. As I keep saying in order to compete with the elite teams in softball the leadership at UNC will have to help provide some NIL money to help her to be able to recruit some top notch pitching. If you look where the program was before Megan got here, it had went down. I do get it when posters keep saying we are providing more scholarships. That is find but it is like putting on a bandage on to the problem instead of getting to the root of the problem which is pitching. I noticed how the baseball team is getting NIL money.

That makes sense. For the record, I’m totally in favor of this staff. Been a great improvement in short time.

Just noting the gap between the offense and pitching and curious on opinions of causes. You come down on recruiting, related to player compensation.

It’s poor development on the pitchers part, but it’s also poor game planning and pitch calling. I really like the Lyons and love what they’re doing for the program… But there is an obvious area on staff that may need to be addressed in the off-season.

She did bring in a pitching coach, and the pitching has improved each year that the Lyons have been here. You have to get some talent bottom line and the only way to do that is to offer money bottom line. That applies to all sports. I do not know how they can generate extra money for softball. If anyone has any ideas, please tell us and them tell her.

LeGette has just been exceptional. She has IT! I hope we can keep her for another season. Feels like we're building something special.

One thing we can all agree on is that Megan and staff do now how to make excellent hitters when they transfer in. I starts back to the two girls who transfer in with her from Marshall. Then last year, the girl from Pitt, and make all kind of teams, and now LeGette. I am going to use A. Bacot's line. If you do not want to come to UNC than you better not come on a visit. If you want to be a great hitter and break all kinds of records than UNC is the place to be in softball. Just call Alex Coleman, Kat Rodriguez, and now Emily Legette. Kat did the same thing last year. She set all kinds of records. Kat also was instrumental in getting one of her friends to transfer in this year because of what she did last year. Caleb Love was instrumental in getting Henri Vassar to come this year for men's basketball.

Cal plays at some place called West Valley College. And again the TV production is really low-rent. A single camera behind the plate that never moves. At least it's better than the jiggly hand-held camera they used for the women's lax game. Didn't realize just how lowly Cal athletics is.

Their softball stadium is undergoing renovations.

Where is Cal mens team playing? It is kind of funny that both our softball and baseball teams are both playing Cal on the same weekend.

They appear to be bouncing around different places nearby to play their “home” schedule. They hosted Dook last weekend somewhere in Sacramento.

They have desperately needed a new stadium for a very long time. Depending on what that place looks like, watch out for them to make a jump because Cal is a very attractive school for a lot of in-state talent. The issue has always been that a lot of high schools had a better softball facility than they did.

Pitching....... we've given up 105 runs in 12 games in the ACC (7.33 ERA) - nearly 9 a game... we've scored 90. We still have series against NC State, Florida State, Dook, and VT... we may be in risk of not making the tournament if we can't right the pitching ship.

The next 10 games are all winnable... and we will need them all... before series against, Dook, FSU, and VT.

Stanford is a highly ranked team. The showed us some weak areas that will need to be fixed moving forward. We know that pitching is going to be a problem against the ranked teams in the conference. Megan and staff have improved the pitching for this year IMO, but we do need some elite pitchers to come in. We have already talked about this earlier. They did play Stanford pretty good IMO. Go Heels!

Is Dark injured? I have not seen her play much, though I am only picking up games here and there.

the stats say she has 40 innings pitch which is clearly not nothing, but last year she lead the conference in innings pitched.

She's been coming on in relief... but getting hit really well. Certainly not giving up the most runs on our staff though.

i think 1971StickInTheMud may have had a decent point about this team’s non-conf scheduling

In all fairness there’s no way to know JMU and Coastal wouldn’t be better and i think they cancelled some tough matches due to weather earlier in tournaments. Cant really blame someone for that. Even so

What was supposed to be a strength...pitching has been abysmmal.

Our offense is not good enough against the top tier. We can put up 10 or more runs against middle and lower pack teams and that can cover our pitching issues....but not against some of the better pitching we are going to face in the next few weeks. We need a series win against some of the better ACC teams.

We all know that we need more pitching but we also know in order to fix this problems we need money to bring some elite pitchers to the heel. The question is where will the money come from. We have been talking about this for some time now. Megan and staff are doing the best that they can to address this issue but let's be honest people, the AD must help her by finding her some money to get better pitchers to come in. I do not think it is fair to criticize this staff about pitching when she has no money to help her. If you look where the program was and where it is now, there has been a tremendous improvement. Now, we need to help her by complaining to the top brass about finding the softball team money to help out with pitching.

Something has to change... we only lose KRD this offseason and we have 8 pitchers on our staff. I'm not sure if Holub is able to manage 8 arms - that's so much to ask. But I am starting to wonder if Holub is the right pitching coach for us. The pitchers don't seem to be "competitively ready" when coming in - as MSL said on a recent podcast - but they keep putting them in there. The pitch calling is oftentimes very questionable. Maybe having 8 arms to manage is too much to ask of her, but I really feel like we've taken a step further back in the pitching this year even though we added a lot of arms. It looks like they are going with Maxton and Frost for the majority and KRD is sort of the mid-week arm. Regardless, game planning and management needs to be looked at from the pitching side. When bringing in arms from the pen, they seem to do OK for a few outs, but not much after that. Maybe they need to act a little more like a baseball bullpen, using a lot of arms each game so you're not leaving pitchers in for too long. Keeps everyone on their toes so they know they are going to get some time and keeps hitters off balance learning new pitchers every couple innings. Even last night, Frost came in the bottom of the 6th, got us out of a jam, and then gave up 4 in the seventh. Something isn't adding up...

I don't know... but it's been said many times that the biggest thing holding this team back from real success is the pitching, and it's been the achilles heel for the team since MSL has taken over. Defense has been a little suspect this season, which wasn't unexpected with a lot of freshman and a 2B that didn't play in the field hardly at all last year. But other seasons has been good.

Do we have anyone that can make a big donation to the softball program just like with fencing. I do not know how they can raise money to help with bringing in top level pitchers to Chapel Hill.
