Two have jumped ship so far and now we have to see who else is leaving before we know how big the rebuild will be.

I'm okay we Mbaye and Godswill (assuming they stay) in the center spot if we can put 4 studs on the court with them. I would pay to have a big forward in the 4 spot who could rebound and shoot a short jumper and a 3 point shooter at the 3 and 2 spots to work with Budd if Budd stays.

AGAIN with Mbaye? He's probably never going to play meaningful minutes at this level. Probably time for you to accept that.

I think we’ll have mostly new players..no one will be able to accurately determine how good we will be

We will be told how much better our NIL is and we worked hard to close the gap

We will be competitive but largely flawed team that struggles scoring..finish between 7-5 in the BE and we’ll be told how actually our NIL is terrible and we need to do better and can’t put it on sha

And the truth will be somewhere in the middle

The good news is the media and coaches will wax poetic on how amazing sha is (I think i know why) and he’ll prob get an extension ha

I can't accept that. Never will. He has been here 2 years and was given a ship. There is the hope that Sha or assistants have been working with him even a little bit to make him productive! If they failed to do that then it is on them! All he has to do is stand 5 to 10 feet from the basket and catch the ball for a rebound or on offense catch it and dunk it. Reall simple. At 7 feet plus it is fundament and easy to teach. I played plenty of hoops to know this. I watched plenty of hoops to know this.

Just watch Mara on Michigan. Sha should watch Mara on Michigan and see how he can use Mbaye.

Playing time doesn’t matter. These kids are going to jump schools every year to get the best deal. And the better their stats the more they will get. It’s a no win situation for the school.
And it’s fans. In what world should fans have to more or less directly pay for players’ salaries (or a portion thereof) and have no return on investment except an intrinsic feeling (and even then only if the team is winning)? I absolutely deplore the constant talk that seton hall fans do not support the program. We buy tickets, merch, travel to see team on road. In most professional sports, it’s up to the team to make the fans care and support the franchise, not the other way around.

Sore loser? Oh so you enjoy the current state of college basketball? Good for you and enjoy it. because I think it sucks.
Consumption metrics have been very good both weekends of the dance. I don't align with the mercenary system but I long lost my interest to be consumed with this or any pro sport team Fandom I have. I guess old age for me. Again I am not putting faith of loyalty into 17 to 24 year old people.

He got beat one on one by a fat bald 50-year old YouTuber with a pot belly. He got clowned on the internet for the world to see. It's pretty much over. Over and done.

He was a local, easy to get, end of the bench, barely a scholarship player who can be a practice player with size and length to get our players used to playing against length. That's his ceiling right now unless something miraculous occurs.

It's not even fair to him for you to expect more lol. He is what he is.

Hines was really out of shape, slow on D and couldnt go out to the perimeter
Maybe. But I don't buy the out-of-shape argument. Was on campus since August. If he was out or shape, who was at fault for not getting him in better condition? My read is that Shaheen knew he was one and done, and also somewhat of a project.

For arguments sake, Payne was a one and done also since he was a senior. I would have liked to see Hines get more playing time. For at least half of the season he was clearly head and shoulders the better player, at least by the eye test.

Not all kids. Nigel James is staying at Marquette, and he was very vocal about that. I’m sure they are taking very good care of him, but his market value would have been through the roof if he hit free agency. Zuby is another example. Tarris flirted with the portal last year, and ended up staying at UConn.

As for us, we do seem to recruit a lot of pure bag chasers. We also seem to lowball everyone, so even our non-bag chasers are essentially forced into the portal. It’s quite the conundrum.

Every year we keep playing "catch up" to the previous seasons "middle of the pack" thinking we will somehow be middle of the pack. It's like we are not taking inflation and the market into consideration at all.

We just need to admit we are a bottom 3 of the BE player in the portal. We have 8 mil that Shaheen wants to spread over 5 starters and 4-5 bench players. And he thinks that's the way to do it it seems. So when Hines asks for 2-3 mil (market value) we say he's being unreasonable. Same with Simpkins.

It's like we are going to the Audi dealerships and expecting them to take Kia offers for their cars. Then we are getting upset that they are asking for more.

Anyone with half a brain by the end of OOC knew Hines was going to be worth 3+ million. I said to my seatmates he'd ask for 2.5+ BEFORE Maui lol

For some in the transfer portal money is their top priority. For others it's not. It's the same way in the real world too.

We have 8 million now ha

Next Feb after we get our doors blown off by Providence at home where we shoot 1-19 from 3 it will be reported we barely had 6 and the friars spent more than the Knicks for their roster

I'd pay him that. At some point you need to show the fanbase and rest of league you can retain your best talent.

College hoops is dead. Kids have no loyalty. Neither will the fans. I’m done. After 30+ years of season tickets I’m over it. Tired of having to learn all new names every year.

^ exhibit A of why SHU needs to be willing to overspend (to an extent) to keep top talent. Demoralizes the fan base seeing the best kids leave every year.

For a quaint fanbase like Seton Hall, losing your best player every year really hurts. They needed to maintain momentum going into next season and give the fanbase reasons for excitement / to stay engaged. Keeping Hines and Clark would do that.

But there's not much they can do if Hines gets a big pay increase and the opportunity to potentially compete for a natty.

It will be a massive groin kick if he ends up at St. Johns though. Total embarrassment if so.
I’m done. I’ll bur tickets to the SHU women’s but screw these mercenary men’s players. There will be no scholar athletes. No 1000 point scorers. No jerseys hung in the rafters. NIL and gambling have destroyed college sports.
People wishing Hines good luck. Not me. Screw him. Hope he rides the bench somewhere. Maybe he should read Luther Wright’s book.

I fully expected he would be gone after one year the day he committed the year before. Majority of our players will be one and done until something changes with the portal, transfer rules and NIL.

But you’re talking about three programs that have the money to match top offers. We can’t nor will we ever have the money to do that. Even with those programs, these kids are exceptions.

Mara was a good recruit coming into college. Can’t put him in the same cartegory as Mara.

Dont be mad at Sha, if Slick Rick was our Coach and had the same $$$ what would change? If Sha has Vitamin Water man he wouldnt be 0-4... Unfortunately for us our billionaire is a science guy and doesnt care for sports while Repole loves hoops....

Nonsense SHU had Kozlowski and Brennan 25-40 years ago except they both went to the big house and the archdiocese and university leadership would not let them repent for their sins

Stunning. Who wouldn’t want to stay and play for a screaming in your face coach, with no offense and refuses to adjust lineups for an entire season? Oh almost forget. Limits play time for a big when your favs aren’t getting the job done. 😵💫

Yes but what he’s saying is that at least for Reed and Zuby, there is stuff out there publicly that those kids took less to stay rather than portal. But we don’t have Hurley or Pitino either, so there’s that. Robbie Avila was another. The Monroe kid at Quinnipiac, surprisingly.

Look I don’t want to engage in this debate. But if you don’t think there is a bit of a difference in resume there, I’m not sure what to tell you.
