UNC strands two, as the first base umpire rings Cooper up with a strike call. Glauber comes back out

Wouldn’t you expect around 6 runs off this collection of pitchers? And we had 4 in 6 innings when it was posted?
If you think you can’t score more than 6 on a collection of 4-5 6+ eras then I’m not sure what to tell you. The math is not linear in the real world. They all obviously have problems with walks/ hits/ big innings. Our offense is lacking so far this weekend, especially with what we are going against.

I’ve been watching this game while “exercising” (standing around in the gym) so I haven’t checked the boards

have we thoroughly lambasted the umpire? This dude is just making up calls out there

We just really aren’t taking care of the easy things that help you win. Walking everyone. HBP’s , wild pitches. Can’t get fly balls when needed. Still might take this series but it’s due to blatantly better talent and not executing better. Gotta get better at the self inflicted handicaps we’re having to play through.

That at bat by BC… just impressive basic baseball. Seen it a bunch from their bats already in two days. Short compact contact swing. Even defensive… but poked through for a base hit despite the batter being honestly clearly overmatched. We’re clearly not a power team this year. Not sure why we don’t have this kind of approach at the plate for more of our guys.

They have two hits.

Did I reference how they were beating the ball around the yard today?? Think I even mentioned the batter was clearly overmatched. And still got a timely hit. With two strikes. With a swing and bat control we should have more of.

I just know if we had 2 singles through 8 innings you wouldn’t be praising our approach at the plate.

Really good win, despite not delivering the knockout blow.

Going to need some big-time performances from unexpected sources tomorrow on the mound. Chance for a big series win, considering how many intangible things were set up poorly coming into it.

Agreed on the win despite the issues. Tomorrow gonna be really TOUGH. Their guy might be their best pitcher... and we have no CG or WM out of the pen, and a struggling starter taking the mound. Not sure how we win tomorrow unless we find some way to put up 6+ runs. Any chance JD is available (if he feels better at all) for an inning or two since he'd normally throw a BP session after a full start anyways? Seriously doubt it...

Quit moving the goal posts and just replying with some different take. We have struggled at the plate. They had a bunch of great at bats yesterday and a few today from overmatched hitters with better approaches at the plate than we have had. We maybe threw out there 3 of the best pitchers in college baseball today and we still struck out more times than they did going against 5 guys with era's probably averaging 6.0 and striking a guy out every inning and half to 2 innings.

And when have I been praising our approach at the plate... at any point THIS YEAR, lol?

Um, nope. Their best pitcher hands down is Colarusso, and he’s done. Even though Caden is done, I think Jackson will be available. What’s up with the dooming? That should be kept on the basketball board. It doesn’t matter though because I think it’s going to be a washout.

OK - sorry for bringing facts to the party... Miller Brady has a 0.82 ERA, a 0.73 WHIP, and a RIDICULOUS BAA of .173. His last two starts were 6.0 innings against Cal with no runs, 3 hits and 7 K's. Then last weekend against UVA with 7.0 innings pitched, 2 hits and 9 K's. Oh - he's a lefty too... And we are sending out a struggling guy with an ERA ballooning over 6.0. Jackson pitched more than he ever has and it will be just over 3 days when first pitch happens tomorrow morning.

If you are excited about our win prospects then that's just wishful thinking not based in reality. Hence the idea that is will be really TOUGH to win tomorrow, especially given the what the schedule and illness has done to our staff this week. I'd take a washout... save our staff, and hopefully get everyone on track again, including Rose being a viable option for next Sunday if Forbes wants to go that route.
