Penn State has an on campus airport & probably uses donors private jets for travelThe best way to think about an expenditure like this is to compare it to other schools. It seems odd that we're #10 when we are located in a metropolitan area -- it's not as though we're hours away from a major airport. I notice Penn State isn't on this list even though it's located in the middle of nowhere compared to us. The amount of money won't make or break us, but it does seem like a strange way to spend resources.
Also Penn State does not have to disclose expenditures via foia requests like other state schools. The way the school was formed and title exempts them from certain oversights.Penn State has an on campus airport & probably uses donors private jets for travel
The partial exemption for Penn State (as well as Temple and Pitt) comes from a special exemption in Pa.'s public records law, not from anything about the schools themselves. https://www.centredaily.com/news/local/education/penn-state/article315157283.htmlAlso Penn State does not have to disclose expenditures via foia requests like other state schools. That's a good point -- there are probably a bunch of schools that use donors' jets for travel and so their spending on air travel is probably not well-reflected in the article.Penn State has an on campus airport & probably uses donors private jets for travel

$260k and you're on about accountability? You're seeing what you want to see.Explain that conclusion?
No. You read that one wrong pal. I agree it’s a non issue. But It is an accountability issue. It’s not a funding problem it’s a spending problem. The department spends enough to compete. Above many of our peers. Just don’t produce the results.$260k and you're on about accountability? You're seeing what you want to see.
When you compare apples to oranges you don't get an accurate picture, but that might be the intent of the media, as they have to know that many B1G schools have unlimited access to donors private jets while others don'tNo. You read that one wrong pal. Yea which was pretty much my point. It’s accountability and results versus spending. We have horrible ROI. And agree it’s media forcing an agenda. When you compare apples to oranges you don't get an accurate picture, but that might be the intent of the media, as they have to know that many B1G schools have unlimited access to donors private jets while others don't
The On3 author did not make clear if the private air travel was for recruiting, travel related to competitions, or other travel, such coaches using private jets for personal reasons.Cost of doing business for being in the conference we are in. A bus ride from Mississippi State to Ole Miss is a lot cheaper than a plane flight from Newark to LAX to play UCLA or USC. Does anyone want to drop out of the Big Ten (and give up the $70 million/year) because it costs us $200k in plane travel?
