Reports coming out today that Northern Colorado, Air Force, North Dakota State, & South Dakota State are headed to the PAC 12.

Trying to think of a school to pair with Little Rock. Just spitballing here but what about American or Bucknell? They’ve got solid programs. Probably unrealistic but idk.

Wasn’t the reason these teams left bc of the Big 12’s requirement to opt into revenue sharing? Not sure many of these smaller schools are up for it as much as I would like to see some new additions.

Merge with ACC for wrestling- makes both conferences stronger- VA Tech, NC State, Pitt, Stanford would be great and UNC, UVA and Duke are not as competitive, but would be competitive for some of the teams.

That would be awesome. Good parity in the conference too. You’d have us, ISU, Virginia Tech and NC state as the top tier teams, Mizzou, Stanford, North Carolina, Pitt, OU, WVU, UNI and ASU as the middle tier teams. UVA, Duke, Wyoming, UVU and ideally Little Rock would make up the rest of the conference.

So this leaves us with 9? I'm not sure why the others would leave to join the PAC in the first place.

Arizona State
Iowa State
Missouri
Northern Iowa
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Utah Valley
West Virginia
Wyoming

We need some of the newer football teams to bring back their programs. Cincinnati, Colorado etc

KSU and UCF have active club teams and neither state has a D1 wrestling program. Feels like BYU could easily get involved as well. Sadly this is never happening for any school without a major donor investment/pressure.
Yep. They’d also need to start a women’s program of some kind too. Louisville had a big donor who game them the money needed to start a wrestling team but it never happened because they couldn’t find a donor to help add a women’s sport

I'm still hoping a Texas school will start a D1 program in the next few years.
Tarleton State has supposedly joined a conference for wrestling but they haven't announced it yet.

It's a bummer to lose the Dakota schools but this is better than what I was hearing all year. I was told that UNI, Wyoming, and all of the affiliates were basically leaving because they're tired of being treated like second class citizens. They want to be able to host conference championships. One guy was saying that they weren't allowed to claim "regular season championships" which isn't something that the conference even does for the sport.

So just seems like sour grapes and these programs were able to get equal treatment from the Pac 12. Is what it is. Ultimately it's probably good for the sport... and at least UNI and Wyoming are still in the conference as those programs are both very competitive.

Tarleton State is also most likely PAC 12 bound.

The big question is who does the BIG XII add?

Missouri and Oklahoma are here for now in the BIG XII, but being SEC schools they may jump ship in the future.

The easiest solution is start requiring the current football schools to start up programs by certain dates. They could even earmark certain Conference revenue for a period of time to those schools to help start up programs. Otherwise you could see Oklahoma state looking else where for a wrestling conference.

I gotta think having Mark Branch as HC helped keep Wyoming in the Big 12. We need to do whatever we can to keep Northern Iowa. Schwab is a really good coach and we need as many competitive wrestling teams as possible in the Big 12.

Asking schools to start programs would be a long way from being competitive. Best solution is to merge with ACC for wrestling, even with the Stanford losses, it brings in some really good programs.

Except this is a short term fix. That could end up having the same result as we have right now and then NCAA wrestling is basically just 2 conferences and the rest of the sport dies.

Could be, but that is where football and basketball are headed. Power 2 and the group of X. Wrestling is headed there whether based on conferences or programs. Those that have money for NIL will continue to try to compete and others will decide if it is worth continuing their programs.
