In comparisons sake. Sports radio in DSM yesterday estimated isu spent around $6.5 this year and estimate will be around 8-8.5 for men’s b-ball next year. Not total surprise with our conf but glad to see we are projected to invest more. And God knows ISU isn’t shelling out the dollars on the women’s team….

This is beyond crazy. Colleges are going to pay some guys more that if they were in the pros. Oh wait colleges are the pros. Sorry, bad post.

It's very likely that a Bennett Stirtz type PG will cost at least $2.5M.

The center Ben wants? At least another $2.5M.

Compare that to what Luka Garza (2021 National Player of the Year) is making in the NBA:

2024-2025: $2,162,606
2025-2026: $2,461,463

Wow, just wow! Thanks Fran.

Our roster now sits at 14 (assuming Tavion Banks is back). 13 on scholarship, 1 walk on.

How do you allocate the $10M to $12M?

6'7 G/F Tavion Banks (SR)
6'9 F Alvaro Folgueiras (SR)
6'4 G Kael Combs (SR)
6'8 F Cam Manyawu (SR)

6'5 G Isaia Howard (JR)
6'2 G Jacob Koch (JR)

6'7 G Tate Sage (SO)
6'8 F Cooper Koch (RS SO)
6'9 F Joey Matteoni (RS SO)
6'11 C Trevin Jirak (SO)

6'8 F Trey Thompson (RS FR)
6'8" PF Ethan Harris (FR)
6'2 G Peyton McCollum (RS FR)
6'7 SF Jaidyn Coon (FR)

What did we have last year under Fran? Pre rev share obviously yet curious...Garza, Murray bros and Weezy would've been expensive back then!

I thought no way was Iowa spending (or had) that kinda dough this year, maybe the BM hire boosted NIL from start. Folgy, Hausen and Stirtz probably together were in 4-5MM range thus the remaining guys split the other 4-6 million, crazy! Assuming Thompson got cash eventhough RS as well?

I wonder how they structure the payout to kids who are redshirting? You know they won't play but if you don't pay they will leave.
Are all of these payout deals flat rate? or is there bonus potential depending on performance? (I'm guessing flat rate because you ultimately can't control if a coach actually plays you or not -Hausen is a good example of this.)

There was a video on You Tube yesterday that listed some of the highest paid players. Stirtz was on their for $1.7M. Dent got $2M from UCLA. The kid from UConn that made that shot against Duke got $582K as a five star freshman. They showed several four star freshmen starters getting $350K.

I had heard that was what Bennett got. Alvaro $1M and Hausen around $700K. That would be around $3.5M for those three. Will be interesting since all starters like Koch will get more than before. Business at it's finest, where to spend your capital budget to get your best return on investment. I always felt that my employees were my greatest asset and treated them well.

One more comment about that You Tube story. The two five star freshmen players at Arizona each got $1.3M.

So if the roster sticks, Iowa can sign one more player. PG or Big Man?

Absolutely did. Can't confirm since none of this seems to be publicly available, but I thought read that Fran's last team had a paltry NIL budget of something like $1.5M or so. Ben's first team, I've read anywhere from $6.25 to $8-$10M (in this thread). What the accurate number is, who knows, but it's apparently well more than what Fran had to work with at the end.

I would be interested in knowing what individuals and companies stepped up with the millions for this year's (and next year's) roster.

If I had to choose, and it were me, I'd go PG - but hopefully Iowa ends up filling both needs. I'm guessing there might be another departure (there would have to be), but time will tell.

It appears Alvaro wants to stay but will the money Ben offers be enough? And what would he be worth on the open market?

Imagine averaging 9 point per game on a mid Louisville team and thinking that you’re good enough to get 3 million dollars.
There are a lot of kids who think they are going to get big bucks that are in for a rude awakening.

I have been saying all along....there are not enough roster spots available at the top schools for all the kids that want to play there. And there are not enough teams that can/will shell out millions for every player that thinks they deserve it. There are plenty of quality players out there that can be had without breaking the bank. Ben just has to find them.

All it takes is for someone to say "yes."

Good grief.

Flory is listed at 6'10, 235 pounds. He has 2 years of college left.

Last season he averaged 13.3 pts, 9 rebounds and 2.6 blocks.

He shot 64% from the field.
