Harris has very good handles for a player his size and is good at getting his shot off the bounce. He'd be more of a wing 2/3 than a 3/4. Thompson will be more a 3/4

Tate Sage they feel has the chance to be a big combo guard.
Sage would be very big for a combo guard. (I'm no expert but he is a large guy for a guard -6'7" 210 lbs)
Sage seems like a perfect small forward to me.

He met with Hoiberg.
I really don't know a lot about Hoiberg except that he has a very good track record of building very good teams.
I have heard that he is a good recruiter and very good at portal recruiting. I don't doubt that.
All of that said, he comes across as a bit of a used car salesman to me -don't know why -for all I know he is a wonderful person. Anyway, my $0.02

He was a master of building teams form talented player cast offs from other teams before the portal. The thing that impressed me is he somehow took talented troublemakers and kept them out of trouble and played team ball.

That was the only we he was taking that Iowa St job is if Pollard let him operate that way. Someone said, it might have even been Fred, that he couldn’t consistently compete with Kansas doing it the old fashioned/HS recruiting way.

I texted as good as a source as you'll get on this one this a.m.

Awaiting a response, sorry, wish I had more, yet the dead period and weighing the offer and numbers I'd guess they are taking the holiday weekend to think through everything.

Tate at times brought the ball up the court in a point guard type role. We have the small forward position well covered especially if we sign Coon. Tate seems a versatile player who I see making a major impact but likely in the backcourt given the recruiting and the forwards we have coming in.

Tate mainly subbed in for Combs, so it made sense he was bringing the ball up at times. I wouldn’t want that to be the case very often tho, but with another guard like Stirtz on the floor it was fine. Needless to say, we need another guard. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a pg but a combo guard that has really good handles and can share the backcourt duties with Combs and Tate/Howard

I got a lot of mileage from this one liner that I first read here when McCaffrey started having success around the same time as Hoiberg, and UNI was still good... Iowa gets the guys Michigan State didn't want, UNI gets the guys Iowa didn't want, and Iowa State gets the guys no one wants.

How do his skills compare to someone like Tavion Banks? Seems like a decent comp from what I've heard: super athletic, explosive at the rim, can defend 1-4, strong rebounder; outside shooting and ball-handling has room to grow.

Will be play or will he redshirt?

This. Even with him being a Clone and Husker, I personally really respect how the guy carries himself. Him wearing Chris Streets # after he passed shows a lot about his character and for being a pretty high profile coach he doesn't act like a complete douche all the time.
I was going to say exactly the same thing. Fred is a wonderful human being. Wearing the Chris Street number was a truly classy thing to do. He also had a reputation as a class act in Chicago.

I don't think Banks was ever considered a "good shooter" until his low volume success this season. I think he was around 20 % before this year, and his number this season were based on very few attempts.

Right, I'm saying both Coon and Banks' outside shooting isn't (wasn't) a strength.

It will be interesting to see if Tavion's 2 junior college years get counted by the NCAA. Are his college days over or does he get another year (or two)?
