No conference games, 16-team playoff. That's the way.
Why not both? It will be both. The expanded playoff will just need to generate more additional $ for the SEC than SECCG currently generates
SEC Championship game generates $50,000,000 in revenue for the SEC. About 5% of total revenues. So no, it's not going anywhere.Too much money involved. It ain't going anywhere.
Well, it SHOULD be of the same significance as the SEC basketball and baseball tournaments. More of an exhibition and a final chance for the middling and lower teams. But in football, that's impossible, thus, it's no longer needed in this new world. It's a vestige of the old era.I think its a crock to have a "SEC Champion" based on 1 game when you've already got a Champion based on 8 (soon to be 9) head to head games from the regular season. Just another money grab in todays world of college sports
But TV money is all that matters. They are in charge.I'll go to my grave saying two 6-team divisions is the perfect conference setup for everything except TV money.
There's really no denying that 1990-2010 was the best era of football ever, as far as fan engagement. I.e. living and dying by the game outcomes. Old men truly pissed when you lose. It was more than entertainment. And......the conferences were generally viewed as equal.I'll go to my grave saying two 6-team divisions is the perfect conference setup for everything except TV money.
Rick Stansbury agrees!Do away with the SEC Championship game and go back to a East and West Divisions and crown 2 SEC regular season champions
Didn’t he win the west at 8-8 one year?Rick Stansbury agrees!
