Yep. Sleepers said there working on an agreement for Stokes to be a Nike athlete at KU. Kinda like Cooper Flag and New Balance at Duke. Only difference being the opposing brand wasn't representing the other school. New Balance didn't care Flag was wearing Nikes while playing. However, Nike should DEFINITELY care if Stokes is rocking Adidas during televised college games.

If true, all UK fans should stop supporting Nike. I realize it wouldn't necessarily hurt them but apparently they don't care about KY. You think they'd do that if it was Duke or even Oregon? Heck no! I can't believe they'll be okay with a signature athlete wearing Adidas while he plays.
Myron Metcalf pretty much said it's Kansas if Self comes back

He could, but it’s currently unlikely that will even be his commitment date. But if it is I find it hard to believe he would take the chance of ruffling feathers with anyone who signs some of his checks.
Simple Nike probably cuts ties then addidas signs him

What if he goes to Adidas school and wears Nikes? On television. Kinda looks bad on the Adidas school and not Nike if you ask me

I mean , don’t sign the contract with NIKE if you want to go to an Addias school. So there’s that.
Or sign it? There's literally nothing wrong with what the kid is doing. It hurts as a UK fan that's about it. We are probably the only ones putting so much emphasis on what clothing brand the kid wears

What does “ or sign it” even mean ,lol. Are you trying to say it’s OKAY in the real world to sign a contract and then do things that are not allowed according to the contract?

If it wasn't allowed it wouldnt be possible. It's legal. Just because you don't agree with it doesn't change real life.

Well so far it hasn’t been “possible “. But you don’t even know what you’re arguing about. We aren’t even talking about where he’s going to school. We are talking about when and where he makes the announcement.

Try to keep up .

Man it's not my little game . Sorry you don't like my opinion. You don't know wtf is in his contract. If it was in there that he couldn't go to an Adidas school he wouldn't be considering them. Once again just because you don't like it don't mean it's wrong.

LMAO ! You are the only one on the planet that thinks it is not in the contract. There have been numerous articles written about the dilemma .

But besides that point.

Show me where I said he’s done anything wrong.

You said he likes to go against the grain. Maybe that means something else for the older generation. When has he went against the grain?

And also so you're saying it's in his Nike contract that he can't play college ball at Kansas?

I never said it was a bad thing to go against the grain. I’ve gone against the grain plenty of times in my life.

Most everyone believes his NIKE contract has some type of wording that at least makes it difficult for him to go to an Addias school.

But again, the discussion was about when and where the announcement was going to be made , NOT where he was going to school.

Are you intentionally implementing the straw man argument or do you just not know that ?

1. A school's uniform apparel supersede an individual's deals. Meaning a student athlete cannot wear a competitor's branded apparel (shoes, hats or jersey's) during game settings, practices, or team events.
2. A player may wear their individual sponsor's gear outside of games, practices and team events and promote them on social media.
3. A footwear exception does exist but has to be negotiated with the school and the competing brands where a player can wear their sponsored footwear as long as it is not branded and doesn't display the competitor's logo. This is entirely up to the school, and the two companies involved and usually requires a lump sum payment from one brand to the other. (Cooper Flagg was a New Balance endorsed player at a Nike school and it was negotiated between the three parties for instance).
4. Apparel deals are exclusive. Wearing and promoting a direct competing brand is a breach of contract.

Can Stokes still go to Kansas, absolutely. He probably will. But Kansas, Nike and Adidas will have to all come to an agreement of some kind for him to be able to and NOT violate his Nike deal. Summation, Kansas and/or Adidas can pay Nike to allow Stokes to wear Adidas gear. Kansas and/or Adidas can buy out Stoke's Nike contract completely, Nike can pay Adidas or vice versa, for Stokes to wear unbranded logo-less shoes while he plays, or Stokes can work out a buyout with Nike and end his Nike contract. This isn't the first time a competing branded player went to a competitor school (if he goes there). There is legal precedent for it. Stokes can 100 percent go to Kansas, but suiting up and playing for them while still being Nike sponsored does have hurdles, but nothing money can't fix. Unless Nike refuses to negotiate at all and want to retain Stokes, then things can get hairy.

Sometimes I feel that way about Stokes - for UK to stick it to him and to tell him to pound sand.

In reality it would probably look bad for UK to cut bait before the portal even opens.

I'm not implementing anything. And him announcing anywhere at anytime is not going against the grain.

And there's obviously nothing in his contract or it wouldn't be an option to go to UK

Maybe it's just me but I doubt most people care. Most young people copy urban fashion from rappers, pro ballers, etc. I don't see the shoe that Tyran Stokes wears moving the needle really. Once he's drafted, sure.

Maybe I'm wrong though, and the marketing people do project significant revenue impacts from things like this.

If you don’t think that announcing his decision to go go to an Addias school at a NIKE event is going against the grain….lmao.

Usually the consensus number one player in the country is like that. Every couple years one doesn’t pan out or maybe in a class where 2-3 guys could be the best in a down year they don’t.
Stokes is no Larry Bird and Bird at Indiana State is the only player I have seen that could lead a lead a bad team to a Championship

The rarest of rare sightings an actual informed response to something on this board. Thank you.

He can’t, he will wear Adidas during games, it’s required by the school and I’m sure Nike knows this. Just like Flagg wore Nike in games and New balance everywhere else.
