Why are so many against this hire? Guy that was a good player in the nba, would have to be an asset to the program
Because he's only a 4 star guard. That's exactly why
Our fans are bunch of spoiled brats
Cal spoiled some of the fans. Before him we sure never got top end talent every year. Maybe 1 top 15 player every 3 seasons

Mo was a great addition

I'm not really in the middle. I'm 60/40 Pope. I'm more interested in giving Pope a fair shot. He earned that 3rd year by what he did last year. How soon we all forget.

2025/26 might be his worst year here and that's because it wasn't built right, it had injuries and it had a serious chemistry problem. He still made the tournament. Most coaches wouldn’t.

If Butler and Robinson don't get injured, that team might get to an E8 and possibly the FF.

If he doesn't live up to expectations next year, I'll be ready for him to move on.

But right now, it doesn't matter what he does, the torch and pitchfork gang has nothing good to say.
Pope’s first year at UK he was 11-10 against SEC teams. In 11 years as a coach he has finished 5th or worse 7 times in league play.

If the jmi contract is not revised you could hire coach K and you still wouldn't get top talent simple as that.Pope is also the problem won't hire a GM to close the deals the recent hires role is unclear.

There is really nothing good to say about a man that took a job he was extremely unqualified for and we have to watch this dumpster fire because some people feel like he needs to get a fair shot. He should have never gotten a shot at all being so unprepared for the job. Can you or anyone else justify to me why he deserved this job other than being a former player? If so please do so. Otherwise just stfu and let all the others vent.
But he can do the job. You guys are awful, all you do us focus on the bad things that hapoened and don't admit that Pope did a damn good job last year.
If this is how you're going to he, there is no coach alive that can satisfy you.
You're trying to blame Pope for taking the job that was offered, it was his pinnacle job and he is good enough to do the job. He proved that. Does he have to fix things? Yes, of course, but so will any coach that gets this job next.
Pope never should have been offered the job, but blaming him for takng it, is stupid.

I remember when the Calipari fans on here used to get mad at you 😂😂😂
The reasons I'm not attacking Pope and I hated Cal:

-Cal was prioritizing the draft and put UK pretty far down on his list
-Cal was getting 10 million a year to win at a high level, he wasn't and it was by choice
-Cal mocked us every chance he got, even though we are the ones that made him a rich king
-Pope is pouring every bit of energy he has into this.
-Pope is focused on winning titles at UK
-Pope showed us he can beat the best teams
-Pope did more in year 1 than Cal did in 4 years and with average talent and against a top 3 SOS
-Pope has had massive injury problems the first two years, I want to give him a fair shot with a fully healthy roster
-Pope doesn't mock fans, or lose to mid majors at home, or in the NCAAT, Cal did both
-lastly, this is year 2 for Pope, 1 was a success, the second was a failure. Every coach has failed seasons.

From what was reported the son committed without any thought regarding the father coming on staff. Pope and Mo Williams (maybe the son too) have the same agent/agency and after the son committed the agent asked Pope what he would think about the father as an Asst. Coach. Pope expressed some surprise that the father was willing to do that considering he's a head coach at a Div. I program and not considered to be in any "hot seat" situation; and Pope was all for it.

Regardless of how that coach hire situation went down, I'm very happy with the Mason Williams commitment. That's a future starting PG prospect in my mind, and I think he plays meaningful minutes as the back-up PG as early as next season - not because he has to, but because he's good enough to. He has a more mature body than often seen with incoming freshmen PGs. He doesn't seem to get sped up easily. And I love his shot - not just 3pt. range, but from anywhere - great form and soft touch. If it were me I'd hope one of my portal 2G options could be the 3rd-string PG in a pinch; and if not find a cheap 3rd-string open-only-in-case-of-emergency PG option somewhere.

I doubt that it worked that way, especially if the same agent represents all 3, but it doesn't matter either way. It's a good move for both coaches and the player. Let's hope so anyway. Never know what tomorrow will be like

Most quad 1 wins ever

Beat 2 final 4 teams, including the national title winner

Beat Gonzaga in Washington.
Git a 3 seed and made it to the sweet 16

That team was thrown together in a month. If you think that’s not a great accomplishment, you might want to stop watching sports, because you have video game expectations.

I'm not saying a 10 loss season and a sweet 16 are the standard here, but given the circumstances, it was a great accomplishment.

He lost the 25/26, total system failure, but you guys just want to send him down the road because he didn't get you a final 4 in year 2.

Having to hire a 4 star recruits Dad to get him to UK sounds kinda desperate. But, hopefully it will work. But honestly, this program still seems to be adrift.
Having to hire him???

Man, you guys will spin everything.
He didn't hire Mo to get his son and you know that, so what's the point in spinning it?

You guys do realize getting Mo, was, by far, the best part of that transaction. He brought his son with him, which is a good thing.

Here's some advice. You don't need to fabricate sh*t to make Pope look bad, he’s done enough on his own. You look bad when you twist and fabricate, just to pile on.

A.K.A depth piece.
I would think so. But I don't think Duke has another Center on it's roster at this point, so even with a Portal addition he could play real minutes.

And if you look up the recruiting rankings of players coming in at most Top Programs you're going to find guys with similar rankings to Williams. It's just a dumb, lazy metric to rely on for an opinion that a guy is not good enough to play at UK proffered by folks who I expect don't understand what those rankings are largely (exclusively?) based on - which is a guess as to future pro potential of the kids the rankings staff has actually seen, and mostly arbitrary numbers for those they haven't.

SGA was a 4 star.. committed to UF initially then flipped to UK.. now he was ranked a high 4 star nonetheless and look how that turned out!
Optimistic for the addition of Williams

Uh yeah, having to hire him. See how long Williams sticks around after his FOUR STAR son moves on. You don't see the connection? Good grief man!

You would have a point if the son was a top 10 recruit, but my God man, use your head. The kid is a 3rd string player. Mo is the real catch here, he’s not some guy nobody knows.

Nice, I hinted at this a few days ago. They had a few targets that were all former NBA players that they were looking at.
With this hire it shows that at least Pope has final come to the realization that just the name Kentucky and a coach nobody knows is not going to get the job done recruiting the top portal or top high school players. But he did miss the boat by not seeing if Rondo would be interested in the job, a person who is said to be servant when it comes to basketball and a known name player who players would be drawn to. If my job was on the line, which his is, it would be a no brainer.
