Only one way to reduce traffic. Reduce the number of cars on the road. The Katy Fwy in Houston has like 16-18 lanes of traffic and from Katy, TX to downtown Houston is the worst commute in the US.

The sitting on our hands and not widening 55 in De Soto county is almost criminal. The amount of accidents between Hernando and Southhaven each day is insane.
I hear you and I55 between Madison and Gluckstadt is where NASCAR drivers could come practice "bump drafting" . Hardly ever 2 days in a row go by without a wreck .

The number lanes will not ultimately reduce congestion if there are lights every quarter mile.

Multiple lane traffic circles work if people know what lane they need to be in based on what direction they want to exit the circle. If you have driven in Europe you know what I mean. You can forget anyone in MS willing to learn the proper rules to make it work. One advantage of a traffic circle is they can limit the amount of tractor trailer traffic on a road.
MDOT is building one at the intersections of Highways 15, 16 and at least 2 city streets in west Philadelphia and one of the reasons is to expedite log truck traffic to the Weyerhaeuser mill. Limiting tractor trailer traffic was not a design feature apparently. Not saying you're wrong. I have been wondering how that thing was going to work.

I don't know how many people have to be killed at Bethel/305 before they fix it. And there's a zoning meeting coming up to rezone much of the area along the eastern side of 305 north of 269 as commercial.
Didn’t know this was your area, Drebin….had you in NE MS for some reason.

The roundabout on 51 in Senatobia has made a huge difference. We need to keep adding them where needed and eventually the people who can't figure it out will either learn or have to go another way

The April fools is strong with this one.

I avoid Goodman like the plague during the day. Theres plenty of routes you can take to get around it and avoid the horrible traffic.

I’ve always blamed the Desoto County traffic problems on the cities hiring Ole Miss graduates. If they would hire State graduates those problems would be solved immediately. I mean look at all the know-it-alls we got on here!

I’m not sure if OB has a traffic engineer but he ain’t very smart if we have one.

It would be based on the diameter of the traffic circle. For instance if you have a thoroughfare, say a residential area, that you want to limit heavy truck traffic you can reduce the diameter of the traffic circle so big rigs can not maneuver around it. This will force all industrial traffic down another thoroughfare.

I'm kinda all over the place. Spend most of my work weeks in DFW and have a little place in Starkville but home is Lewisburg/Desoto County.

I'll leave the ideas to fix the traffic problems to those who live there. I work in Desoto county fairly often and I avoid Goodman Rd at all costs. 269 is nice though.

There is a round about at the hwy 72 and hwy 7 in Benton county. Other than the coast it’s the only round about I can recall seeing in MS. It’s not bad IMO. Keeps people from pulling out in front of you and causing bad wrecks.
Hernando has three and MDOT is adding another one in Hernando on Highway 51 at Green T road. There’s one on Highway 301 and Starlanding Road in western DeSoto County and it was a Godsend. Over the years there’s no telling how many fatalities have been at this intersection.

People that gripe about roundabouts don’t realize the benefits of them and the added safety. They dramatically reduce fatal accidents.

That's the thing. It doesn't seem to be near big enough, but I am no highway engineer. I guess we will see.
