Just a post on that one play. Re-watched it and what a play to get that tying goal. Past couple of years, it would have been relying on Ross or Knobloch doing their thing or the past two years hoping Kurdyla got free.

But that was as perfect as drawn up play we've seen in a couple of years (and you're crazy if you think it wasn't drawn up that way). Starts with Stoller making that amazing pass right into the stick of Kelly. No fake, no hesitation, just caught it and made the pass. Imagine Stoller dropped it close to Kelly, but Kelly needed to pick it up or if he got the pass awkwardly and took just a second to gather it. It would have been game over without that perfect pass.

Then Kelly draws at least 4 defenders and took just enough time to hold them before the pass to Mongillo. And Mongillo was just far enough away to not draw too much attention but still positioned for a great shot. Then that shot, JHU goalie goes low and it bounces high.

Great play. In my opinion its what is missing from the PLL these days which may have sped up the game too much.

Initially, I thought JHU caught a break when they stopped play to make sure the clock was correct. At that point, RU has already cleared it over midfield and things were unsettled. But, as you point out, really well executed once play resumed.

Great point. Think of all the things that had to go right for what is really a season saving play and then actually did. How many times as Rutgers sports fans have we seen the opposite happen.

It was perfect execution. Beida is a master and the guys executed perfectly. One of the keys to great play is notice how every pass is right on the stick. No wasted motion. Pure efficiency. Kelly made a very veteran play. He didn’t get nervous and fling a shot at the goal. He understood time and space. That’s a grad move. Obviously the shot was incredible but it was everything leading up to it that was perfect, allowing that to take place, starting with the absolute bullseye Stoller threw.

Notice too how Mongillo wasn’t in frame. He was floating over the midline just enticing his guy to hedge to Kelly, coming in with momentum at the right time. And Kelly made the perfect pass allowing that momentum to continue perfectly into the shot. Just incredible execution.

They had to stop the clock after starting because the Hopkins errant pass hit something and rolled back on the field. At the time I thought it was a terrible break. It wound up being a great one.

Kelly’s decision making and execution there were elite. Having the wherewithal to drive to the cage and hold the slider to give Mongillo space for a step down was masterful. Also Mongillo hanging back slightly rather than streaking down the field took tremendous discipline. And that shot….

Beat Michigan this weekend and things get interesting. Heading to Maryland on the 11th for 6pm faceoff. Then taking in an Oriole game on the 12th.
