After 464 pitches North Carolina defeated the Camels. A short and sweet Nugent's Nuggets since its 1:28 a.m.
Jackson Rose was outstanding, his mentality to stay calm on the mound and show emotion after was incredible. His stuff matched it as he pitched a career high six scoreless with two hits, five strikeouts and three walks. UNC needs bullpen weapons besides the three headed Glauber-McDuffie-Matthijs monster and with that performance Rose has shown that the moment is not to big for him. He also had a really great snap pick and in a game when every out really counts it was huge for UNC and for Rose himself.
This team seems to have settled in to the "never back down" mentality. As of recently when they have their backs against the wall they come out with the horns. They are 3-0 when going to extras and know how to win the games with a razor thin margin. There were a ton of strikeouts on both sides and a lot of miss chances, that will have to be cleaned up. But the Tar Heels got the win and in gritty fashion.
Cooper Nicholson hit his 3rd homer in 4 games and increased his hit streak to a half dozen contests. His batting average before the last Louisville game was .197 and now he's hitting .253 and leads the team in homers, props to Cooper on sticking with the process.
Scott Forbes did not have a comment on the Owen Hull thrown out at home. That's all I have to say about that.
It's an ugly box score for a lot of the UNC players, but as Forbes says...a win is a win.
Fun tidbit: Rom Kellis has some Campbell magic. Last year his only homer was vs. the Camels where he recorded three hits and three RBIs. On Tuesday night/Wednesday morning against Campbell he went 2-for-three with walkoff hit to finally end the game at 12:48 in the morning.
