There is no coach alive that could keep up with that pace.I was happy with his first season BUT with the caveat that that would be his basement here. The team was quickly thrown together and he was still getting acclimated to the job so I could overlook the bad losses.
In year 2, he had a Ferrari. Compared to ‘96. And he took a major step backward and imo proved himself totally out of his depth in his role here. I just don’t think we can afford to move backwards, and that’s what we’re doing.
We had a top 3 SOS last year, won the most quad 1 games ever and got to a sweet 16. There litetally is no coach alive that can have a tenure here that would never dip below that.
Honestly, something happened with this team. Yeah, the injuries and JQ quitting, was bad enough, but this team had lockerroom issues sometime in November and never recovered from it. It explains a lot if I'm being honest. The weird lineups, the weird interviews, JQ opting out, Pope standing there quiet as a mouse as we were getting shredded. The team was broken. Hopefully that doesn't happen again.
Every coach deals with a team turmoil, I believe Pope just did.
