That’s actually an embarrassingly poor record. Wonder who beat us & when.
That's the cumulative score against the 3 SWAC teams we've played this year.
Oh we’ve lost to SWAC teams more than once.
Off the top of my head:
Cohen lost to Jackson State at Trustmark Park in either 2009 or 2010
Lost to Pine Bluff in 2015
Lemonis lost to Texas Southern in early 2020 before COVID shut it all down.
I can understand playing them in football. It helps with our record, and it give needed money to a SWAC school for football, but we really gain nothing and they probably don't get a big day for the game playing them in baseball. They get some good cooking but hell they can get that at home. Auburn played GA Tech last night. We played SWAC.
We just played 3 in a row on the road vs our archival. We're about to play 3 in a row against a Top 5 team. I'm fine getting an easy win in the 3 days between those two. We already play Ole Miss and USM 2 or 3 times every season in the midweek. If you're good, that will clearly show against our schedule.
We’ve played Southern Miss twice midweek this year. And Auburn has a game vs Alabama St.
There's definitely a travel component to it as well in these midweek games. You gotta play teams that are reasonably close or are traveling in the area.
We have some overlap with Auburn too. Both playing UAB and Samford. Mississippi only has one quality non SEC baseball program to choose from.
They played two against each other in midweeks. Split them, with each winning at home.
Auburn plays a SWAC team in 2 weeks. Last week we played a top 15 Southern Miss team.
