If we can beat Creighton, lots of eyeballs on RU this Saturday

I just noticed the college hoops schedule for this Saturday:

Crown Semifinal - 1:30 PM - Fox
Crown Semifinal - 4:00 PM - Fox (I'm pretty sure this would be the timeslot RU would get)
Illinois-Uconn - 6:00 PM - TBS
Michigan-Arizona - 8:49 PM - TBS

Every sports bar in the US will have likely have these Crown games on a few TVs along with baseball.

PS - Crown Final is Sunday at 5:30 PM. NIT Final is Sunday at 8:00 PM.

Why does a Seton Hell fan feel the need to troll here all the time, pretending to be a fan & then goes to the Hell board to talk trash about the Rutgers program, guess you didn't have the grades to get accepted at Rutgers so you had to go to North Newark Community College.

Such harsh words on such a nice day. Actually I have time and dollars invested in three schools- RU, SHU and Clemson. Never trashed any of the three. Just stating the facts and no bias to any of the schools. Sorry if you don’t agree.

I doubt it’ll be among the worst Fox ratings of the year simply because that game opens for a final four game. Ratings are based on average minutes so there will at minimum be plenty of people tuned in at the end just waiting for the pregame to come on for the UConn Illinois game.

The ratings for the late Thurs night game will be very low.

Last years ratings for final were like tops non ncaa games

Thursday ratings will be be trash

Ratings? I'm not even watching the Creighton game live due to the start time. I will watch it Friday morning.

I'm kinda surprised RU is a four-point dog. I like our chances if we play like we have the past few games. Of course, it may all come down to whether or not Creighton is hitting their 3s. Needless to say, they will have fresh legs for this one.

I don't think we were even picked out of the Big 10 for this tournament until several other teams turned it down.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear Creighton wasn't a top choice either, but both programs got the invite and
it doesn't matter if either are not first choice schools, they're in.
Rutgers winning their game against Creighton should be our only concern.
Go RU

When we went to the NIT championship it began with no one giving a crap because we had just lost the worst game ever vs Va Tech in the Big East tournament. If you didn’t see that game live you will never understand the pain. It was the kind of loss that makes you question if you waste too much time watching sports.

Then we won a game, then beat West Virginia (always a feel good moment), then Nova. Suddenly the idea of playing in Madison Square Garden went from who gives a crap to being pretty cool. The bar scene at Penn Station before the Michigan game was electric.

Winning is fun. Winning tournament games is addicting. I wish it was a different tournament, but it is what it is. If we play our best basketball of the year, this could be a great weekend. And we’ll all love it, consolation be damned.

I'm a retired old geezer and I'll try to stay awake. If I can't make it, I can't make it. If it was an NCAA game ( and many of them start past 10PM), I would definitely watch till the end.

The two games preceding the loss to Va. Tech in the BET were even worse... blowing a 15-point lead in Blacksburg and losing at the buzzer, then a two-point loss to SHU at the RAC. We win two of those final three games and we would have been dancing.

Hard to believe that was 22 years ago. Most 2026 RU grads weren't born yet.

That season with the two losses to a Virginia Tech we had beaten by thirty in mid February and the Billet Hodgson team that choked away a sure NCAA bid in the final few weeks are the two most frustrating seasons I can remember ( having a losing season with two NBA lottery picks would have been at the top if not for the fact that there was never a point after the Kennesaw State loss that anyone felt that team had a shot)

1999 and 2004 were the two years we came closest to earning a bid to the big dance during our 30-year drought. In '99, losing a heartbreaker to SHU at the Meadowlands then losing to Georgetown at the RAC on Senior Night stuck a fork in us.

Sort of but they didn’t have to take 2 teams from the BIG. I believe the contractual obligation is only to invite 2 teams. After Indiana and whoever else declined they were free to ask anyone they wanted. They took a third team from the B12 rather than going down the line to the next BE team.

The brains behind this tournament actually seem to be pretty smart. Shifting down to only 8 teams from 16 was the right call. The bracket itself is clearly not seeded based on resume / metrics and I’m sure that was intentional. Better to make it into more of a low tier bowl like experience with some decent pocket money at stake to win. Some teams will still decline, but this won’t become what the NIT has become where it’s a perceived embarrassment to partake. Go out there and win one game and you collect some money. Don’t pay anything for your trip. They shouldn’t ever struggle to fill the 8 slots with power teams.

The NIT is very different today than what it was back then. Seems like very few power conference teams are playing in it these days.

Not sure if it was deliberate, but the Crown clearly took measures to assert itself as the clear best alternative option for teams looking to continue playing if not selected for the NCAAs.

The truth is though there’s probably very little overlap in terms of interest in a Tulsa / NM game vs WV / Stanford anyway other than hard core bettors. Fans of those programs might tune in and the high major game may also generate some moderate / casual interest from B12 / ACC fans.

As far as the later games, the same is true. I don’t think there will be much interest in either game but our game would clearly have more buzz than the Auburn game unless Illinois State takes a big lead and media hype of them embarrassing Auburn kicks in. There’s at least a minor story line in the Creighton coach retiring. The Crown hedged itself in this match up in the least desirable time slot by guaranteeing to knock out one of the 2 teams with losing records and whoever wins there’d be some minor juice either way
(If we win - there would be a story line to post on our young team coming together late blah, blah - and a WVU / Rutgers reunion would get mild acknowledgement). If Creighton wins they run with the coach retirement thing and winning for him. The narratives for the Crown are like the low tier bowl games while the NIT is pretending to be a second tier version of March madness and failing miserably (seeing that Oklahoma and Stanford opted for the Crown).

Rutgers-Creighton does not have more buzz than Auburn one of the last schools left out of the ncaa tourney and one who easily like Texas could have one won 2 games in the ncaa based on their resume. Come on..sub 500 schools do not create interest. Oklahoma is the heavy fave currently based on their resume and really the only quality school in the field besides maybe Stanford.

You think a game against Illinois State is generating any interest period? Come on - they not only stink but also play in an irrelevant conference. How do you compare that to 18-14 WVU? Colorado won 17 games too. Minny story line is their depleted roster and competing despite that.

If Auburn was offered a spot in the Crown I’m sure they would’ve taken it. You disagree? I’m sure playing South Alabama, Seattle, Nevada and now Illinois State is creating a ton of excitement for their fan base (not). The season is over. Nobody perceives these teams Auburn is beating as “better” than Rutgers or any team in the Crown field despite our losing record. Also - at this point, nobody even cares that Auburn or Oklahoma had better seasons than Creighton and Rutgers. Clearly the Crown organizers don’t give a crap. They assigned Rutgers and Creighton (the two worst teams) the easiest first round paper draw.

Auburn is relevant because they were the controversial bubble school that beat Florida and 6 other ncaa schools....this argument is liking arguing who the tallest midget is...no one really cares about these tourneys. Auburn hoops is a way better brand than Rutgers and Creighton combined and a late start on the east coast isnt going to have people burning the midnight oil


as for Rutgers anyone not affiliated with Rutgers is looking and laughing at just how we got to the point where 14-19 schools are in post season..thats the opinion of rutgers

You guys are funny using the word buzz for any of these games. None of them have "buzz". Only sports mental cases and the fans of the schools even know these games are happening.
