forgive my old man rant but I hate NIL and think its ruining college sports. Get of my lawn! lol... I miss the days when you got to know a kid, see him grow for 3-4 years where he really feels like part of the hawk family. But, times change and is what it is, still hawk fan til my dying day, go hawks!

I don't disagree with any of this.

That said, from a purely spectator standpoint, portal season is fascinating to watch, and it will continue to be for the next couple of months. I mean, what would we be talking about on this board this time of year without the transfer portal?

I agree with you. 100%.

However - I've been watching Colin Cowherd. Yeah, he's arrogant, but he does do his homework and he's pretty smart. So, he is pointing out that the B1G is dominating in football and basketball in the NIL/portal era. The B1G has the footprint in big money areas, like Chicago, LA amd NYC, the schools are bigger so more successful alumni. There are more big games in football and there is more talent staying in school. Viewership is up. He believes it's better this way vs. the SEC paying players under the table to get the best players. Now Indiana and Vanderbilt have a chance to be successful without cheating.

He does agree there needs to be a cap on payments.

From a "wholistic" standpoint, he's probably right. If you're just a fan of college football and basketball with no particular allegiance, they have improved.

We might as well get used to it. It's not going away.

p.s. My neighbor's grandson played HS football in the St Louis area with a kid that went to NW as a RB. Doesn't start. Just signed an NIL deal - $500,000/yr for 3 years. He gets a free education at NW and will graduate with a whole lot of money. And that's just loose change these days.
