Nevertheless, Erik Paulsen did not, in fact, wear the Golden Sombrero, and the same box score confirms that fact. As I recall, after the TV announcer said Erik could achieve that "distinction," during his at bat in the 7th inning, Erik fouled off what seemed like 7 or 8 pitches, before then hitting a key single.
An oversight, perhaps, due to your not being able to fly to South Bend--because you are a student--and thus not able to miss classes on Monday?

As for students and players and class, Carolina flies home after the game. It’s why there is that Sunday drop dead time on games that so may folks complain about when Sunday games are called early….it’s for travel purposes so players can get back sooner than later in series like this. Obviously Cali trips are different.

The game one box score that is posted on GoHeels does indeed show that Paulie had 3 Ks in that game. And I remember that the TV announcer said that he had achieved the sombrero and mentioned that he was trying to not get the 4th K.
back in my day, 3 was a sombrero, 4 a golden, 5 a platinum....but either way, he was struggling until he wasn't. Good bounce back for Paulsen
Great series win - no matter what, especially on the road, in the cold. And to end up with a sweep, there's not much to worry/ complain about... but we are fans and we want everything to be perfect. I have one current concern... 1) It HAS to start being time to worry about Folger, right?? Worst ERA on the team (regular) at 6.28, 1.64 WHIP, and an astonishingly bad .317 BA against. Thanks to our bullpen and offense on Sundays this hasn't cost us wins directly, but the metrics are bad and trending the wrong way. Gotta have improvement from him or someone else has to step up and settle that spot down to feel better about third weekend starts.
