While it's fun to make fun at Duke's expense, they have been to three F4's since we've been to one. So they have 18 F4's and we're stuck at 17. And our NCAAT wins lead is one over UNC and down to three over Duke (I think). But Duke has been catching up fast and will probably pass us next year. We're getting left behind at an alarming rate.

It's foolish when people draw broad conclusions based on a game that could have gone either way. I hate Duke, but if Mullins misses the shot, we would talking about how Hurley will never make another Final 4, blah, blah, blah.

I defended Calipari, and I'll defend Duke

People don't realize how hard it is to win it all with freshmen. Very few coaches have ever done it

A freshman was the one that turned the ball over today and lost the game
I know what you're saying, but the freshmen carried them all year. Plenty of upperclassmen made silly mistakes in this tourney too that cost their teams. UConn's freshman made the game-winning shot.

Freshmen have shown out big time in this tourney. A huge feather in the hat of the strategy of loading up on top-notch freshmen.

There’s no need to defend Calipari or Duke. They both choke, but Duke is performing horridly with rosters most coaches could dream of. Do not forget Duke and Nike / foreign cash gets to pick who they want first. Since Calipari spurned Knight, they’ve picked their guy 1st. To have the media, foreign cash, the NCAA, mega donors, NIKE, team USA rep, and the sham legacy of Coach K and STILL CANNOT MAKE A TITLE GAME and rarely a FINAL FOUR is trash. Duke should be sitting at final fours 50% and 2 titles AT MINIMUM right now. This isn’t a regular situation don’t pretend it is.

I know you’re trying to minimize Calipari’s failures. You have some good stuff here, but, no one has done less with more than Calipari over a long period of time. Mike won 5 titles, despite his failures at times. Sheyer has only been there 4 years. He’s off to a good start with doing less with more, but, Calipari has done it for a lot longer.

Any day that brings tears to the Dookies is a great day in my book.

Not only have they had more talent than anyone else, they have referee assistance every game as well, and still can't close the deal.
The only time I have ever seen duke get anything close to an unfair whistle, was when they lost to South Carolina in the 2017 NCAAT. The refs let the game get physical and duke couldn't match what SC was putting out there.

Other than that game, I've never seen duke get anything close to the sh*t whistle we get.

You think veteran players don't ever turn the ball over?

And duke isn't just getting freshmen, they're getting the cream of the crop and those kids are bigger, stronger, longer, faster and are more skilled than everyone else.

It’s just incredibly hard to win championships in a 68 team single elimination format even as the favorite. Cal and Scheyer both have some late round games they’d like back, but most coaches do since they tweaked and expanded the tournament after John Wooden’s run of dominance at UCLA. If Hurley somehow manages to win a 3rd title in 4 years this season, he’d be literally the only one with that kind of run in the modern era.

The biggest indictment to me is , with all that talent Calipari only got us a number 1 seed THREE times in his twelve years.

It’s about more than just championships with Cal though. He hasn’t been to a final 4 in 11 years or a final 8 since 2018 .

This is a great
My Wife and I were In Indy for the Wisconsin game in 2015. We had a nice hotel room downtown. We had checked in early that day. Went to a cool bar for lunch and drino’s.

I was 95% sure we would beat Wisconsin. When we lost, we went straight to back to the hotel,
grabbed all of our stuff, retrieved our car, and drove back to our home in Union, Ky.

i had to swerve to miss a deer on highway 74. It was a really close call. Got off the MT Zion exit, and had to swerve to miss another deer about 2 miles from home. Unbelievable.

While I never pass up the opportunity to **** talk Duke.. what this really says is just how hard it is to win with young, inexperienced freshman, no matter how good they might be. Flagg made big mistakes last year, this year it was eventual NBA-bound Cayden Boozer who made a costly turnover.

The idea that coaches are just supposed to win every game because they have some 5* 18 year olds has always been silly to me. These guys have to go up against experience and built 20, 21, and 22 year olds who have far more experience at this level, and they have to do it in a single elimination tournament. There is no room to make really any large mistakes, or youre going home.

It honestly makes Cals 2010 to 2017 run that much more impressive to me. He won a lot of final4s and big tournament games with ZERO help from the officials and did it with more freshman and no ability to pluck seniors of the transfer portal to fill in gaps.

Duke has, what 2 finals fours, and no titles in the 10 years since going all in on top recruiting classes? Despite shooting like 800 more free throws in the tournament.

I dont know how theres ever an argument when you see what Dean Smith had and not only that had them for multiple years. I mean the guy had Michael Jordan for 3 years...just look.at MJ's junior yr roster when he was national player of the year and they lost in the s16
