I love Ben, but the decision to not play. Folgerous cost us the game.
His play in the first half got him the bench...I love Ben, but the decision to not play. Folgerous cost us the game.

AgreeI wonder if we should have thrown Jiriak in there, if anything just to throw his weight around…![]()
Amazing that you know more than a coach that has won 4 national championships. He is a great coach. He made a major mistake by letting his pride get in the way. That’s the one thing he’s going to have to overcome to get to where he wants to go.
It was a game of men against boys. Literally. First there are at least 5 players on Illinois who have played professionally in Europe. Second, their average age is over 21. They have 4 players over 22 years of age and 7 players total over 21. The NCAA needs to do something about this, and if not the NCAA then the courts. It's ridiculous that a team has professional athletes playing. While I agree, it seems many people underestimate the timing of calls, and how it affects momentum in games. Also stoppage of play affects momentum. That stupid horn thing as an example, or even these reviews that take 5 or 6 minutes, can really stop a team that's on a roll.
Anybody who thinks the officiating in this game was "fine" is either a TBS lackey, an Illinois fan, or oblivious to the rules of basketball. IMHO, of course.1:12 left and the official calls that. Lol.
Regardless, the officials didn’t decide this game. Overall, the officiating was fine. Iowa just isn’t quite at this level yet. Still a fantastic start to the BMC era.
It will be interesting to see how Illinois looks against Duke or UConn. Right now, I am tempted to think Illinois has a decent shot against either team.
I hope they get mauled, destroyed, totally embarrassed.Illinois will get throttled.
YaasI hope they get mauled, destroyed, totally embarrassed.
Illinois is awesome at rugby. Basketball? I didn't see a helluva lot of that from them. I did see players pushing off constantly, both guys with the ball and rebounders. I saw guys make clean blocks on shots with their hands and arms who then fell on top of or crashed into the shooter with no call. I did see #0 travel at least once almost every damn time he touched the freakin' ball, and he wasn't called once. Not to mention all the other non-calls on traveling in the lane. Koch and Banks get called for touch fouls all night while Illinois goes careening around the floor with nothing being called. I could score too if I were 6-10 or so, 250 or so, and could simply knock people out of the way until I shot a lay-up.Illinois is better than I expected. They are playing really well and locking guys up defensively. They obviously have a lot of size but they also have a bunch of guys who can score.
There is no reason they can’t compete against Duke or UConn.
Or an aged porn star.He looks like the Assistant Vice President of Perishables for the Northern Midwest District of Walgreens.
Did you see what Alvaro did when he was in? It was just like during the regular season. He looked like an All-American for a game or two, and then he'd look like the last guy you'd pick last in gym class. Sadly, yesterday was gym class. He made some stupid passes, he missed a couple shots, he never got a single rebound . . . He didn't deserve any more minutes than he got. We needed good Alvaro, but a physical game like that rugby match just wasn't gonna work for Alvaro.I love Ben, but the decision to not play. Folgerous cost us the game.
All of which is why I thought it might be worth trying Jirak in there for a little and see what happened. He played well @ Purdue weeks ago against their bigs. I know he looked like the stage was too big when Ben inserted him briefly against Florida, but I thought it might have been worth a try yesterday just to let him crash into some of their bigs for awhile and match them scrum for scrum.Rough team and allowed to play that way all 2nd half.
Also, if Iowa could have matched up with them, even a little bit, height-wise and its probably a different outcome.
With their height and letting ILL shove Iowa around underneath, its no wonder that the rebounding numbers were so skewed.
My thought exactly.I wonder if we should have thrown Jiriak in there, if anything just to throw his weight around…![]()
They will if they keep their refs with them. It’s amazing that the ticky tack calls were pretty even, but then they choose not to call crap around the rim….including an obvious goal tending. I guarantee the Illini won’t have it so easy from here on out….![]()
