HP Central will not be playing Varsity football in 2026 after being outscored 523-0 in 2025 in a 0-10 season. They will look to build with their JV squad and will resume a Varsity schedule in 2027.

Where are the current varsity kids going?
The Enterprise indicated that there were twelve rising seniors. At the time, they all said they were staying at Central. After reflection, who knows? A lot of those kids may not have the means to just up and go to another school. Gotta get to school every day some way.

The NCHSAA should sanction 8 man football for programs that end up in situations like this and some of the smaller programs. I think several programs could benefit from that option. I think this is going to become more and more prevalent in the current state of things.

This is a school that won state titles in the 1990s and was an elite program. This is not a school with only 200 students. This is a large school with a large student body. What the hell has happened there? I don't understand why a school of that size cannot get together 30-40 kids that want to work, put in the time and compete to at least be respectable. There has to be a reason for this futility and I'd like to know what it is. There is no excuse for the Bison to have sunk this low. HP Andrews is in the same city and while they are not what they once were, they are still decent. Something has to be going on at Central.

Reminds me of my Alma Mater, Westover in Fayetteville. In the early years of the school in late 70s and very early 80s we had a very good baseball team for a few years. Not a legitimate state power but reached at least the eastern state final in my senior year 1981 and losing to Cape Fear there, a team we had beaten twice in the regular season. I cant remember all the details but when I returned home about 2015 in my Mom's final days I was shocked to find out casually in passing that Westover baseball had not won one single game in the last 8 seasons. I was literally shocked with that level of ineptitude. And Im an old timer I do remember when High Point Central was a football power. If Im not mistaken they won the football state championship in my junior year of 1979. Edit to add I would have to assume in the case of Westover not winning 1 game in an 8 year period in baseball almost surely that streak would have to include a high amount of forefits due to not having enough players to field a complete team? Since its my Alma mater I find thr streak all the more significant and infamous in that the length or the streak would have to be significantly higher in math than by example the Indy football winning streak. But I cannot for the life of me find out the details of the streak online. I only know that when they finally won a game it was a fairly big deal. PS wanted to add that those very good to great Westover late 70s to early 80s Westover baseball teams I am talking about were coached by Randy Ledford a man I greatly respected and who later left Westover to become head football coach at South View and leading g them to state title appearances in 2000 and 2004 only to lose to Indy. RIP Coach Ledford..
