even the ****** announcers were saying how 2nd half was called different... hard to overcome them constantly going over or backs and uneven officiating...

Still, hell of a year and so happy Ben has brought life back into this program! cant wait to see what he does for next years roster!

The lack of a tech on the kick trip to stop the fast break told us all we needed to know of how this was going to go. They called a lot of soft stuff on us around screen action to get them into the bonus early. And then Sage got hammered on that drive without a call. That second half was F grade reffing after a really good tourney.

Calling that foul (trip) that far away from the action was enough.

Yep. So if thats the rule, why wouldnt any coach just instruct his players to grab and kick the nearest opposing player to stop a fast break layup from counting every time a steal happens? Oh because in normal reffing, thats a tech. These refs can't be that stupid.

The refs who cheated us against Florida in the bowl game all retired to Mega-Million-Mansions. Truth. It's not an Iowa thing, the ref profession has adopted the integrity that exists in the rest of society.

not to mention the ref waited till it was obvious we had the run out to even blow the whistle. The trip happened 2-3seconds before the whistle came. Stirtz had the ball heading down court

Coach was asked this question from Cory B of Hawkeye of the Storm.

He said he would word the question so as not to get him in trouble.

Was like... how do you help your players deal with the physicality of play. Lol

Probably will be on the post game video what coach answered.

There were some bad calls, some missed calls, there always are, but that isn’t why Illinois won the game.

We could never solve the size difference, and their defense down the stretch sealed the deal. They’ll be a tough out next weekend.

It was a heckuva run. Ben is going to need to hit the recruiting trail to get the size to compete with the top teams in the B1G. I believe he will.

I told my daughter that we complain about the refs in the heat of the game. But looking back. Illinois may have had the benefit of the whistle. But MAYBE a 4 or 6 point benefit at most.

Not the difference in the game. We couldn't stop Illinois down the stretch. I think they have a really good shot at winning it all

Good assessment. 2 calls for sure where the run out foul by Wagler negated stirtz layup and miss of offensive goaltend first half. Not why we lost but yes they made it frustrating

It’s not just the calls themselves, it’s also situational. There were 2 runouts by us that were negated by late calls, for example. They would have resulted in dunks and gotten the crowd more involved…who says what that would have done to momentum. Just really pathetic and embarrassing reffing for an Elite Eight game….the game and the moment deserved better.

I am so pissed that the refs blocked us out and made sure that Illinois could miss 14 shots in a row and still get two points before we got the ball back.

It's all the refs fault.
Illinois did their best Angel Reese impression today, shooting 3-17 from 3 and won by 12. Basketball has always had a problem with its offensive rebounding rules, it puts a bit too much emphasis on size over skill, and it's insanely difficult for smaller teams to both contest and rebound around the rim. That doesn't excuse the refs for missing as many calls as they did.

yeah, first half one aren't a big deal, good teams overcome them... but last few minutes trying to make a comeback and you dont call it correctly absolutely affects the outcome. maybe they still wouldnt have won, no one knows, but it should have been closer and who knows how that added pressure affects players...

see, that might be true but officiating can change the momentum in a game dramatically. So, IMO you never really know the extent of the damage.

Welcome to reality.

Size is difficult to overcome ..you have to play almost perfect.

Last time I actually saw a team outplay size was way back in 26....March 22 if I remember correctly.

Yeah that was EGREGIOUS.

Goaltending should be reviewable later... Just like a foot on the 3 point line.

They spend 3 minutes to add .3 seconds on the clock at the end, but don't blink an eye at this type of play.

Not the difference in the outcome of this game..... But if it was a 2 or 4 point win.... It's HUGE

So many examples where we lost out on points and where they were conintually getting sent to the damn FT line

No wonder Ben is losing his hair

The rules should change to only 1 point awarded after missing and no shot clock reset. This "whoever has the 7 footer camping in the paint wins" bs would end overnight in college ball.

I think it's the way the game was officiated that really made it more difficult for Iowa to win. With them being undersized as they are they needed to be able to be more physical. A ticky tack called game was always going to benefit Illinois way more than Iowa.

Regardless of who is playing, I ******* hate it when there's 20+ fouls in the 2nd half with like 7 minutes left to go. It's ridiculous, these guys weren't fouling that much. Whistle happy refs absolutely suck all of the wind out of the game.

How embarrassing was that horn? And then the Jumbotron has to be shut off to make it stop?! Never seen anything like it in an NCAA game, let alone one where the winner is going to the final four.

I was bothered more by Van Gundy being an Illinois shill the whole game. Give it a rest dude. Was hard to believe they didn't;t call the offensive goal tend on Illinois though. That ball was sitting on the rim when he tipped it in, and even Gundy said it was in the cylinder.
