We know he's streaky player, that's why there is a whole thread about our record when he is on. But that's still only about 45 percent of the games where we see him get going. Just usually Banks and/or Manyawu are playing well when he is off, and tonight all three contributed very little offensively and nothing on the boards.

He had been a difference maker. 2nd leading scorer in the tournament going into the EE.
Strange.
I agree, you don't play a guy that little that was one of the main reasons you were there. I was STUNNED that he only played 9 minutes. Sorry, who the hell else but Stirtz had a great game? No one (Sage was good, love that kid). Bad call Ben, you needed scorers, every single Hawkeye got abused in the paint, the outscored us 40 to F'ing 12 in the paint. And the guy that only played 9 minutes sure as hell wasn't responsible for that. Folgers was not the problem, but he can score and he didn't have the opportunity. Boo!

WTF is wrong with you?! Booing a coach who just did something that hadn’t been done in nearly 40 years? Get over yourself.

He's flawed like we all are. So GFY.

Al was on fire this tournament, and he played 9 F'ing minutes in this game. Unbelievable. Maybe you noticed, we scored 59 points. Think maybe we could have used another scorer who just happens to be on fire recently? Yeah, me too.

We got ABUSED in the paint and he was on the bench. Think that's an Al problem? Yeah, me neither, but he can score and nobody who took his place did. Comprende'?

yeah, it was odd but I trust in Ben... there must have been a good reason
He pulled him twice in the first half, and then he commented directly in the interview with the sideline reporter, (and both comments were about him, even though he didn't say his name). Not boxing out, and then after we finally got a rebound dribbling through multiple defenders and turning the ball over instead of passing it to a guard. Not sure he played again in the game for more then a minute.

The hell it was. Absolute stud. Great Hawk. The reason we were playing tonight. What a ridiculous take.
It absolutely amazes me the knee-jerk reactions Iowa fans demonstrate on here.

If it were up to some people, Stirtz would have been buried deep on the bench two months ago and Ben McCollum would have been tidying up his resume before the calendar had flipped to March.

That’s how stupid people are.

He flamed out early tonight.

What happened?

Damn!
I suggest watching his 9 minutes. Maybe he wasnt in the right defensive positions, maybe he wasnt blocking out, etc. I am going to rewatch it closely.

I am curious also. I would and could not ever 2nd guess such a great coach but maybe we needed AL in there more to score and hit treys to counteract Illinois' offensive rebounding.

With all the points Illinois got in the paint he wasn’t the only one getting abused. We needed his offense.
He left his offense in the hotel room last night. He does that way to much this season.

YOU gave up on the Hawks in the Florida game but they won and played 2 more games. 😆 🤣 😂 😹 So much crying.

BM .. He played the guys that were "ready to go"

AF .. "I wasn't ready to go" (post-game interview)

I can't believe you watched the game and need this explained to you. You are the "flawed" one for sure.

Alvaro is a box of chocolates; you never know what you are going to get.

Ben apparently thought Alvaro was not ready to go (after the 2 turnovers) and sat him for most of the game.

Ben knows the guy much better than we do but wouldn't you tell Alvaro to wake up and eventually put him back into the game & see how he responds?

After all, IOWA was in the Elite 8 because of his play (and others, of course).

The full text of the tweet:

Alvaro Folgueiras had 0 points in 9 minutes tonight.

“I feel bad. I never got in the game. Those early mistakes, my coach thinks I wasn’t ready to go. In the Elite Eight, I would never let that happen. This March was great. I had some great moments. It just wasn’t there (today) … as a team and as a player. I feel bad.”
