1:12 left and the official calls that. Lol.

Regardless, the officials didn’t decide this game. Overall, the officiating was fine. Iowa just isn’t quite at this level yet. Still a fantastic start to the BMC era.

It will be interesting to see how Illinois looks against Duke or UConn. Right now, I am tempted to think Illinois has a decent shot against either team.

Illinois is better than I expected. They are playing really well and locking guys up defensively. They obviously have a lot of size but they also have a bunch of guys who can score.

There is no reason they can’t compete against Duke or UConn.
If Wagler is off, Boswell is nothing special. Stoj is a baller…but .i just don’t see them winning it all. I thought they had a better team when UConn throttled them…

If the jump hooks from the seven footer are dropping Illinois is pretty tough.

Van Gundy is the biggest dipshit announcer. Insufferable to listen to
Definitely could hear some bias to him. Hummel I think is one of the best. Shame they couldn’t just have a 2 man team.

but one thing I do agree with them the way they called first and 2nd half was opposite and unfortunate. All of a sudden calling more than the first. Frustrating

Of course they do. They have an elite pt guard, great size and are impossible to keep off the boards.

The officiating in this game was **** for Iowa. It was, and it's not debatable IMO. But you can't score 59 points and win anything worth winning. Stirtz had 24, Sage had 10 as the next best scorer. That will get you beat a LOT.

Our run in tourney was made possible because stirtz had more than one guy have really good games. Clemson had combs and Alvaro step up. Florida game banks, Koch and Alvaro. Nebraska Alvaro and sage. Tonight we didn’t get much help for stirtz.

Agreed - but the no calls underneath definitely swayed the game…the no goal tending call and trip by Wagler do stand out…😎 Just far too many self inflicted, uncharacteristic sloppy turnovers did them in IMHO…

Koch played great, but I think he just had his hands full with their tall timber to make a bigger difference. 🥲

Rough team and allowed to play that way all 2nd half.

Also, if Iowa could have matched up with them, even a little bit, height-wise and its probably a different outcome.

With their height and letting ILL shove Iowa around underneath, its no wonder that the rebounding numbers were so skewed.

Only 1 guy, but Sage made some pretty big plays.

Coop hit a couple/three 3s, too.

I wonder if we should have thrown Jiriak in there, if anything just to throw his weight around…🤷‍♂️

Absolutely did not. Maybe we score a few more points, but Illinois big men were absolutely schooling him. They would have scored 80+ and we lose by 15-18 instead of 12.
We will never know but I think you are wrong. Horrible move to bench the hero of the tournament for your team.

Horrible move for a coach that made all the right calls to get us here? Then he all of a sudden got stupid? Do some of you even listen to yourselves before you post? I’m not saying Ben’s above reproach on certain quick game time decisions….but he obviously knew/saw things we didn’t to decide not to play him. Maybe trust him rather than second guess him. Just sayin’…

The trip was the worst no call. It was such an easy upgrade.

College ball needs the NBA clear path rule on fast breaks and the refs cutting out the run outs are a non issue.

Yep. I love Al and he had an insane tourney, but it wasn't his game tonight.

Watching AZ right now….crowd is insane, not sure Purdue will survive. I really don’t see the Illini winning it all….maybe I am just bitter though. Lol
Definitely don't think they have the sauce to win it all, but I think they could beat an over hyped Duke or UConn team.

He is a great coach. He made a major mistake by letting his pride get in the way. That’s the one thing he’s going to have to overcome to get to where he wants to go.

While I agree, it seems many people underestimate the timing of calls, and how it affects momentum in games. Also stoppage of play affects momentum. That stupid horn thing as an example, or even these reviews that take 5 or 6 minutes, can really stop a team that's on a roll.

Well we've been saying for awhile that Folgeras was the X factor. He showed that again in this tournament. Then yesterday ZERO. It was REALLY obvious that Ben was very upset with his play in the first half. The other huge factor was the two fouls calls on Sage early in the first half.....
