So when you go out and spend big on a head coach, good things happen? I wish we treated football with same seriousness.
Yep, one of these things is not like the others

Baseball coach resume: CWS title, national coach of the year, 7 CWS appearances, multiple conference titles, coached 100+ MLB players

Basketball coach resume: 1 NCAA tournament win

Football coach resume: Empty

But did the other 2 coach at Oklahoma while Selmon was there? Seriously if that was going to be the hire we should have just kept Arnett another year. This cost us 3 years in getting serious about football. If not more.

I honestly don’t think that spending money on a football coach translates to a good team like baseball. Baseball players and football players are not the same. The path to MLB and the path to the NFL is very different. A great coach in baseball is huge whereas a great coach in football is just the beginning.

It’s just the beginning in baseball too. LSU didn’t spend $13M per year on Lane Kiffin because the coach doesn’t matter. If O’Connor didn’t bring in the transfer & recruiting class he did we’d still be mediocre.

There's one good coach and he's not leaving Indiana.

That’s an interesting thought - at some point you wonder if he develops the need to prove to himself that he can win in the SEC. And we are the perfect place for a guy like that. Likes the underdog role and wants to prove that he can build something without the help of a brand like Bama.

He won’t. He’s already winning in a better conference. Why would he want to take a step back? SEC ain’t what it used to be pre NIL. And with much bigger & richer Big 10 schools they’d not changing any time soon.

We are a legit national championship contender.

2016 Baseball, 2017 / 2018 WBB, 2021 Baseball - this team is going to end up in that company, IMO.
Look, we've had a good weekend thus far but pump the brakes for a second. We still do not have a proven closer. Until that is fixed I wouldn't bet on playing for a natty, much less winning one.

We may or may not make it to Omaha or win a national championship. But there is zero question we’re one of the 8 best teams in the country.

Yup. And could easily do the same in football if we paid up for a proven winner.
We could go out and spend $15MM to hire the best coach in the country but it wouldn’t mean crap unless we spent twice that on NIL.

I believe that if the Ivy League ever wanted to get back into major college sports they'd leave everybody else in the dust. With their multibillion endowments they could pay their players and coaches NFL-level salaries.

He won the friggin' modern day football playoff national title by demolishing everyone in his path. What else is there to prove.

Maybe, just hear me out here, if we weren’t cheaping out on FB coaches historically, our resume wouldn’t be so pisspoor.
